Check the brake switch sensor near the brake pedal (or on the lever) to make sure that it is engaging.

This is a c ommon problem to get stuck in park when this brake switch goes bad.

SOURCE: how do i get my 2006 dodge charger out of park if

You have to take remove the little rubber change tray from under the ashtray then remove the two screws. Then take the chrome trim from around the gear shift and pop all the plastic from around the gear exposing the lower part of the hear shift. On the left side under the gear shift their is a pink plastic piece attached to a wire. Put your foot on the brake and as you move the gear shift you have to press down the pink piece to get it into gear. this just happended to me today, that assembly has to be placed because of the little pink piece.

I checked the site listed above and we went to the dealer. The guy above me is wrong.
Doing some research though, turns out it has something to do with a flimsy plastic piece within the assembly that after a while will break. There is a metal replacement you can buy for $50 though. Better than paying $500 I'm sure.

General public says it cost about $400 to have it done, and it's not a permanent fix. There's a plastic piece that is prone to breaking.
you can do it yourself for under $50.

My 2006 dodge charger is stuck in park how do i repair it

When the car gets stuck in park it is due to the park lock system, the system will not release unless the brake lights are on so if you have no brake lights then the gear shifter will not move. Check the brake lights first.

There are a bunch of these shifters that are screwing things up. I would have it fixed and keep the reciepts. Dodge has been good about reimbursements after the repairs if they do a recall.
In other words Dodge may reimburse you if it becomes a recall later.
