Power steering went out while driving and battery

I drove through a large water puddle in road after it rained, and my power steering went out immediatly and battery light came on. I thought maybe the truck stalled, but it was running, but no power steering. This is a 2004 ford F150, 5.4L triton 4 wheel drive truck. What could cause the power steering to go out like that?

If the water got high enough to cover the front of the engine or was shot up high enough by hitting the puddle it will cause the belt or belts to slip on the pulleys so you can loose power steering or the alt will show low amperage output and will turn on the battery light.

If the belt gets wet and flies off, or starts to slip, the power steering and alternator will stop spinning causing this condition.

Check belts to see if they are still on the truck and spinning the pulleys of the alternator and power steering pump.

Check to see if your serpentine belt is still on the pulleys. No belt,,no power steering and no alternator. You are probably driving on the battery only.

My 2005 cobalt went thru a large puddel and the car stoped running.

When you drove thru the large puddle of water the air cleaner system may have sucked water into the engine, pull out the spark plugs and try turning over the engine, if water comes out of the spark plug holes then you may have a serious problem.

Drove through a puddle, power steering out and temp gauge on high, battery light on

I've seen it happen many times on the older Caravans, if you hit a really deep puddle, the splash can knock the accessory drive belt off of its pulleys. You can just gently pry the belt back on, consult a service manual for detailed installation directions.

I drove through puddle then power steering went out then radio /headlights /power windows stop working

this is very common on these vans, the fan belt comes of, take a look and you will see the belt will be off, theres many problems with the belt coming off when you drive through water or snow, theres a kit for this with diffrent pulleys and a double ribbed belt so it doesnt come off, hope this helps.

Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove thru puddle about 3 months ago - Battery light came on & lost power steering, but after 1 minute, batt light off & steering fine... Then, on very...

the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

Battery light is on, power steering went out, 2000 Chrysler Grand

Yes, these vans are susceptible to taking in water. You may have an alternator full of water and it may be affecting the charge to the battery. Have an auto parts store test the alternator to see what it's output is.

As for the power steering, I don't know why the water would affect it.

If you go to the dealer, say nothing about the water puddle. I had a friend with a similar situation and the warranty would not cover the repair because they chose to drive into the water.

Check the engine oil dipstick for signs of water (bubbles). Sometimes the engine will **** water if they go to far underwater.

I had this problem twice and it probably is the heater core. There is a temporary fix if you can't get it changed out right away. You can get it tied off but you won't have any heat, it will stop leaking though. Does your heater work? If your heater blows cold and only blows warm when your car warms up then starts blowing cool air again that's a surefire sign.
