Question about 2003 GMC Sierra 1500

1 Answer

2003 5.3L 4x4 GMC Sierra has started being hard

2003 5.3L 4x4 GMC Sierra has started being hard to start, cold or hot, mileage 130,000. You can turn the key on and the starter keeps spinning after you have released the key, this happens even when yyou try several times. Usuaslly on the third or fourth try the truck will start. Runs fine after it starts. Changed fuel filter and pressure regulator, still does it. No codes showing.

Sounds like a Solenoid might be bad on the starter if it spins freely and a high rate of speed without engaging.

Also, the relay could be bad.

I am ot sure if the fuel filter and pressure regulator would cause this problem.

No code will show with a bad starter or bad relay, I don't believe.

Good luck with this one.

I have the same problem with my GMC pickup. I replaced the starter 2 months a go and now it is doing it again. I am going to try the fuel pressure regulator to fix the hard starting problem and then go to napa and ask them about the starter. I have a Pontiac Grand Prix and the starter on it also sticks some times.

Im guessing it's a 4.3 L engine. Sounds like your coil is acting up when the truck heats up. Bad coil, or small wires going to the coil

1998 GMC Sierra 2500 5.7L hard cold starts last month, now won't start cold w/o a little carb cleaner in intake. Codes for oxy sensors, mass air sensor and crank/cam position. Drove today, no power just...

starting definately has a lot to do with the crank/cam position sensors, but it wouldnt have nothing to do with hot or cold weather, oxygen sensor will make the vehicle run too rich if its out, you will smell fuel very strong out the exhaust, that could make it run sluggish also, and usually if the mass air flow sensor goes out the vehicle wont start at all...

1996 GMC Sierra 1500 XC 4x4 5.7 Hard To Start

Is that one carburetorized or fuel injection. Have you checked the air filter? Also there is a sensor on some that operate the choke and they don't always close or open like they should when starting. Especially cold. I just can't tell yu if yours has that feature or where it's located from my seat. If it is a carburetor then you can take the fuel line off the carb at the carb, (be sure to pull the coil wire all the way off both ends) and have someone turn it over just long enough for you to see the pressure of the fuel pump.. He may not need to try and start it but just turn the key on when your ready. Probably and electric fuel pump??? If not he does need to turn it over. Keep me informed on what happens. I have more ideas. If you already fixed it then how about a thumbs up for my effort, Raz

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 - heater blows, but only cold air

Check coolant level. Check for heat at the heater hose going from water pump to heater core at firewall. Check to see that cable is moving coolant control valve from the closed to open position. Low mileage so it shouldn't be plugged heater core.

Yes I have a 1998 GMC Sierra K1500 5.7 4x4 It

I don't really think it matters what state you live in they both have the same kind of weather, i know because i have lived in both, your problem is most likely fuel related, chanses are its either a fuel filter or fuel pump problem, either filter is pluging up or the pump is weak. Best thing to do is chg. the filter and do a pressure test on the pump
