Question about 1988 Mitsubishi Pickup

1 Answer

Mitsubishi Triton V6 lacks power on acceleration

I have a Mitsubishi Triton V6 (1997) and when i first start the engine and pull away it lacks power on the acceleration. This seems to last for a few minutes or so until it warms up. If i warm the engine up before pulling away, i don't seem to notice the issue. If i leave the ute parked for more than 30 minutes, i have the same issue. It also seems to be worse if it is colder and as a result of the cold i have to rev the engine for about a minute in order for it to idle.

Full power is only achieved when the engine is fully warm(operating temp).so if you accelerate more than, say, a third of the gas pedal, the car will feel sluggish.
this is more apparent when first starting the car in the morning in winter.almost like the car is going to stall.
most wear in the engine is leaving it to idle when cold you should always drive the car straight away from cold.then when hot turn on the a/c if required....

Spark plug gap for 1997 mitsubishi trition 2.4 petrol ute

Spark plug gap does not effect the engine timing so it's not that critical. Thirty 5 (.035) should work just fine.

Have a 4M41 engine in the 2007 mitsubishi triton and when under acceleration between 2000 - 2600 rpm the engine hunts or surges and then clears after 2600 rpm. It is more noticeable in 3/4/5 gears only...

It needs a programming check of the accelerator pedal via ecu of the engine. All previous activity of the system is recorded in the ecu which can be corrected in the dealership of mitsubishi.

I am having the same issue on Mitsubishi Galant 02. Clattering on acceleration, herky jerky idle. Pulled a code multiple cylinder misfire. My mechanic's diagnosis is bad valve cover gasket causing oil to seap into the spark plugs and bad timing belt, which I have not replaced at 150k miles. I do however know my fuel injectors do need cleaning, he hasn't ruled that out either. Have you pulled any code on it? I have read on engine knock sensor going out on some of these also. Hope this helps some.
