Diagnostic trouble code P1870 (Transmission Component Slippage) is a General Motors-specific code whose set parameters are determined by transmission type and engine size. The PCM monitors and compares engine speed to vehicle speed after the converter clutch has been commanded ON in either high gear or Overdrive. Should the expected rpm ratio exceed predetermined parameters, DTC 1870 sets. And upon doing so, the PCM elevates the transmission main line pressure and stops converter clutch apply.

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy, 6 banger, automatic. Getting trouble code P0452. What do I do? Truck seems to drive fine but I am worried it will not pass the emissions test with this code. Help.....pleas

Your not going to inspection obviously, without
checking for OBD Codes & making sure all
Emission Monitors run, or you just waste your time
as usual, sitting in line to fail

TYPE: OBD PO452 to see your codes

Going to have to component test the Evap System
& find the problem & resolve

Check Engine Light

You won't know until you retrieve the fault code stored that caused the light to come on. Hook up a code reader or scanner to the diagnostic port for the engine computer, usually located under driver side of dash. Several parts chains (autozone) will do trouble code scans for free. When you get the code or codes, you can then decide. It could be a minor emissions problem, but who knows? If it is running rich, you may need a mechanic to fully diagnose and find the problem.

Just filled up with gas and service engine light came on and code is 430 and still seems to run fine but it seems like it has ben using alot of gas

I think that code is an emissions code. IF you had the truck running while you were filling up it can cause the DTC/ check engine light to come on. I would have the code erased (autozone can do it for free) and see if it occurs again. IF it comes back on then it would be a good idea to have the system looked at.

Engine light comes on. mechanic says it is catalytic converter. ( emission problem ) Truck runs well. Is this a major problem.

it will not effect your truck performance but it can effect environment , if you want you can run truck till it will star giving problems like poor pickup ,excessive smokes and poor mileage .

Check engine light came at stop light. truck driving fine no problems

The check engine light is part of the vehicles emission system. This normally won't effect the running of the automobile , but it will fail emission inspection( if required in your state). It could be anything from faulty gas cap to bad spark plugs causing it to come on. Most auto parts chain ( i.e. Advance or Auto Zone) offer free diagnostics for the light , to find out why it is coming on.

Hard shifting in my 99 sierra z71 automatic throws a dtc code p1870. turn it off for a min. and it's ok for a while. I don't detect any slippage but pull up to a light and stop then when you start up it...

This code can come from a variety of problems. Could be a bad O-ring, or a shift solenoid, even worn clutch rings. Could even just need a computer update/reprogram. Unfortunately its not an easy diagnosis because of the wide range of possible causes. You are probably going to have to take it in.
