Fuel gauge on my 2006 Nissan Frontier

I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier. When I fill up the fuel tank, the needle goes to empty and the Check Engine Soon light comes on and stays on. After driving about 38 miles the needle jumps to 1/2 tank and gradually inches up to full. Is this issue subject to a recall or will it cost an arm and leg to repair?

You're in luck
There is a possible recall on 2005-2008 nissan frontier/pathfinder and xterra, for erratic/inaccurate or
inoperative fuel gauge. This is the part# for the fuel gauge sending unit in question is #25060-ZS00A
Give your local nissan dealer and they should be able
to help you out. The reference number should be
#NTB07-069 AND 069A Hope this helps.

Well if it wsn't doing it before it sounds like someone has stolen some of your gas and has broken the fuel gauge in the tank. A good shop shold charge about $150 to do the work and may be able to fix the gauge or install a new one. the new one may also cost about $100 unless they can get a used one from someone they trust. The whole pump hanger with the gauge costs a bunch and you need to shop for it new and used. find a new one then call the dealers parts dept. and see if their willing to match the price or get close. The dealer part is better. Put on a locking gas cap so this doesn't happen again and young family members that have a go-cart or lawnmoer need not have adcess to the keys.

Stalls as soon as fuel light comes on-sputters- then is ok with fill up until it gets down to 1/4 tank then hesitation again

It could be your Fuel Filter is dirty but more likely would be a fuel pump issue. It is easier to pull fuel from a full tank than one near empty and that would explain the sputtering

I have a 2004 pontiac montana. for about two years the fuel guage would fold over and read 125 degrees when the tank is full. it woulld stay there until tank was empty and the needle would drop to empty,...

It could be a bad fuel gauge in the dash unit, but....
Usually it's "The bad".
The fuel level sending wipe arm and windings on the fuel sender wear and send erratic readings. The only cure is a replacement fuel gauge sender.
The check engine light should not be related to the erratic fuel readings.
"The good".
If you have over 200,000kms or 120,000 miles on your van you need a new fuel pump anyway,so have a complete assembly put in which will have a new fuel sender on it.

I had the same problem since May with my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder brough it to my dealer 4 times during the course if 3 mos. Then I finally called Nissan Consumer and filed a complaint. Since this was due to a recall that was done to my car, there was no charge. They had to put a whole new fuel gauge sensor. I suggest to take it to a Nissan dealer because there is a recall for Fuel Gauge faulty reading that was put out in March or so 2010, so your car would qualify for the recall at no cost to the customer.

Fuel pump 2005 nissan altima

Take it back to where you had it serviced. They probably simply missed connecting the fuel level sensor. The engine light is probably from a missed emissions hose that goes to the gas tank.

Fuel gauge slow to rise and service engine light on

the fuel level sending unit might be shot. mine went out and every time the gauge hit 1/4 tank the needle dropped. its a $80 part, simple to fix yourself if you are out of warranty otherwise they will try to nab i with a $280 bill that includes changing the fuel pump which is not required.
