your tumblers are worn or damaged, some people don't realize if you have to many things on your key chain the weight can cause damage to the tumblers in your ignition. That may not be in your case but I bet the tumblers or maybe even your key is worn out, if you have a spare key try it first.
Have you tried to turn the stearing wheel side to side while turning the key? Sometimes the wheel gets bumped and it locks with the key in the ignition and the added tension won't alow you to turn key unless you turn the wheel from one side to the other.
At first look, I would have guessed that your battery in the door opener was dead, but that is not the case. I suggest driving to a nearby Chevy dealer and ask one of the salesman if he/she can help. They have always been helpful to me. If not try another one as they are in business to sell not only cars, but service also. They will be your best bet to fixing it. :D
HOLD TO UNLOCK BUTTON ON YOUR DRIVERS DOOR, WHILE HOLDING BUTTON DOWN TURN KEY ON, OFF, ON OFF, ON OFF, YOUR DOOR LOCKS SHOULD CYCLE,. LET GO OF THE UNLOCK BUTTON. HOLD DOWN LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTONS ON YOUR REMOTE AT THE SAME. IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 1 MIN AND YOUR DOOR LOCKS WILL CYCLE AGAIN. IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE REMOTE, HOLD DOWN LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THAT REMOTE AFTER FIRST REMOTE IS PROGRAMMED. ONE AT A TIME. TURN VEHICLE ON AND TURN BACK OFF. YOUR REMOTES SHOULD WORK. GOOD PLACE TO HOLD YOUR REMOTES IS CLOSE TO IGN. CYLINDER SWITCH
It is entirely possible that the unlock button on the remote is worn such that it is not making contact. I've seen this happen many times, as the unlock button is pressed so much more than lock. You might try to reprogram the remote first before you look into getting a new remote. The procedure goes like this.
Close and lock all doors
Key in and out of the ignition 6 times, hazard lights should flash twice
Turn key into accessory or on position
Unlock and lock doors with drivers switch
Press lock or unlock on remote
Hazards should flash again to verify recognition
turn key off
manually unlock door and then open and shut it.
you should then be able to test remote.
The key to the procedure is doing step two quickly
Hope this helps, if not you may need another remote or see dealer.
You have to change out the ignition I just went through that with mine 2000 and it had to do with the button on the gear shift and lock in ignition switch.
It cost me around 400.00
