Remove the ignition module, and have it tested, there is a est mode in the module that may have went out,est is electronic spark control. If it checks good, then the computer would be the problem,I hope this was helpful, and if so,please rate, and see if there are any codes ,in the system.

When you replaced the tps,did you make sure the lever was located correctly so the throttle will move the tps?

  • micey72 Jul 05, 2010

not one hundred percent suure there is a type of motor on top of the throttle biody what is that called

  • micey72 Jul 05, 2010

there was only one position for the tps to line up with shaft and the bolt holes

You might be talking about the idle air control,or iac motor, this has to do with idle, only, did you make sure the lever on the tps was in the correct position so it will move with the throttle? If so,try this, unplug the map sensor,or mass air flow witch ever it has,see if it will accelerate,it will run crappie, but will tell you if it is bad or not, then it will set a code.Reset the system by removing the negative cable ,then put it back on after 25 seconds to see if it will relearn.

Yes there is only one way it will line up,but you still have to make sure the lever on the tps is under the lever on the throttle,if it is not,the tps will not move.Look at it to see what I am talking about.

    k i will thank you

Why does my 99 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharge keep stalling

I would check the idle air control valve before replacing anything.
The computer regulates the idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.
The valve could be faulty, or the throttle body can be gummed up.
Is the check engine light on ?

I have a 2000 grand prix and i changed the intake gasket and it will idle the die

Take a can of carburetor cleaner and spray it around the whole parimeter of the intake gasket you just replaced while the engine is running. If the idle increases while your spraying it that will mean the gasket is not sealed properly

My 1993 pontiac grand prix with the 3.1 engine stalls when it idles at a stop light but it starts right back up. it has plenty of power. we changed the o2 sensor did the vaccum leaks and ths spark plugs....

The next thing to try in regards to the stalling would be to change out the Throttle Position Sensor this sensor is the usual cause of this symptom.

High Idle 2

I would look at the codes,, jumper the two upper connector holes in the diagnostic link with a paperclip,, turn the key on, and read the blinks of the check engine light,, first will come 3 12 codes then any error codes. If you get a repair manual for that vehicle it will tell you how to perform these tests.

Grand prix wont idle

There are 3 things that should be checked.
The idle air control valve (some call it a fuel bypass valve)
Throttle position sensor
and a fuel pressure test done. The idle air control is usually mounted on the throttle body, so is the tps which has a black plastic casing. good luck.
