Question about Nissan Quest

1 Answer

How Do I Reset A Mercury Villager/Nisan Quest Minivan 1997 Anti-theft Feature? I've locked and unlocked the vehicle several times, but it doesn't reset. That is, the ignition and steering column remain locked. I disconnected the battery thinking that would disable the anti-theft mechanism, but it has not. The alarm has not sounded. But when I open the door, the small red LED light for "Security" (in the same panel as the hazards--to the right of the steering wheel) blinks on and off.

Nissan Quest are notorious for defective alarm systems with no fix available, trust me. After endless research I just leave the drivers door unlocked and if I open and close the sliding door just that will lock the drivers door, AGAIN. Endless combos of problems with no cure.

How do I reset the ProLock system?

Hi Carol , do you mean PATS passive antitheft system ? Locked up your car ,do you mean it won't crank over an start ?
The passive anti-theft system uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.
  • During each vehicle start sequence, the ignition key identification code is requested by the vehicle protection anti-theft electronics.
  • If the key's ID code has been programmed into the system, the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) is signaled to enable the vehicle to start.
  • If the key's ID code is not programmed into the system, or if no encoded key is detected, then the powertrain control module is signaled to disable the vehicle.
The passive anti-theft system communicates the state of the security system to the powertrain control module via the J-1850 communications network data link connector (DLC). The powertrain control modulebased on the communications from the passive anti-theft system, will determine if the vehicle's engine is enabled to start. The passive anti-theft system differs from the active anti-theft alarm system in that the passive anti-theft system enables/disables the vehicle from starting and only operates with the ignition switch in RUN/START position. The active anti-theft alarm system has perimeter protection capabilities and operates only with the ignition switch OFF. Refer to Section 13-11A for active anti-theft alarm system information.
Vehicle Disabling The passive anti-theft system will be activated and disable the vehicle from starting if any of the following conditions exist:
  • damaged encoded key
  • unprogrammed key
  • non-encoded key (key has no electronics)
  • wiring concern
  • transceiver concern
  • Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) control module concern
  • J-1850 Communications Network concern
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

go to villager quest yahoo group for more help.

I think you have a bad driver door lock actuator. You have 4 in vehicle and one usually casues this. Each door and hatch have them.

Anti-theft system stuck triggered

Anti-theft does not disable the lock cylinder itself it only keeps vehicle from starting, lock cylinder will still turn and energize the electronics. Sounds like you have a stuck tumbler in the lock cylinder itself, some times turning steering wheel with one hand while trying to turn the key with the other will free it up.

Mercury villager brakes pads

you can buy them on EBay and have them shipped to you. Try to get a name brand like Bosch, Ford, Kelsey Hayes, Nissan (Quest is same vehicle). Cheap ones make noise & don't last long.
search on ebay motors and type in villager quest bakes.
