Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My best bet would be to 1, change the fuel filter, 2, change the air filter, 3, clean the throttle body air intake with carb cleaner, 4, add a fuel injector additive to your fuel tank, 5, add an oil cleaner to the engine oil let it run for 20 or so minutes then, 6 drain the oil, 7 remove & replace the oil filter, 8 refill with good quality engine oil all but one liter, 9 add a one liter can of Ametech Restore, 10 change the spark plugs, 11 check the leads, 12 check the dizzy cap and rotor arm for cracks corrosion etc and replace if needed and then 13 drive with as low as revs as possible for the duration on the ametech instructions, all this done at home should cost no more than 150.00 pounds & if it does then you have been ripped off, this is far less than a garage would charge you for a basic service

When was the last time you tuned up your Jeep? Spark plugs, cap and rotor can certainly attribute to if not cause the problem you are describing. Definitely sounds like a fuel problem (too much fuel being dumped in the cylinders.)
