Question about 2001 BMW 3 Series

1 Answer

2001 330ci bmw.. the car has had a everyonce in awhile idle problem to where it stalls at random times. once every few months. now the spark plugs were changed and then the car will idle for about 5 sec. badly jumping between 500-1000 rpms then stalls. i can't drive it anywhere in town now. it drives fine at high speed. the battery was disconnected, so i'm not sure if its a code or programming problem or just happened at the same time. what could be the problem?

I bought an 89 dodge spirit, and it wont keep the battery charged has had multiple new batteries put into it and it also stalls every time its put into gear what could be the problem

Most probably, the AIC stepper motor is bad, one way to kno, is when the engine slows at idle when you swithc on the air conditioner, and the Idle automatioc control does not correct the RPM dropping from the increased load. An engien that does not maintain correct and stable idle cannot maintain the battery charged, but it could have multiple issues.

Check the crankshaft sensor or read codes off of the OBD-II system to see if that describes a problem that would cause the car to crank but not start and run on its own.

Starting and stalling issues in a 94 Z28

you have a egr system problem, most likely an oxy sensor. also check the intake sensors as they will corrode easily when let set without starting for awhile, this is why any mechanic will tell you to start a car daily and let it idle for a few minutes. (if it is a daily driver in your position)

Chances are your distributor cap, it may have carbon buildup ad is acting like a jumper wire to other spark plugs or it may have a very fine crack in it with carbon buildup shorting two plugs together. It's best to have it replaced, they don't cost that much and it's easy.

BMW 740i Stalling Issue (Fuel Pump/Line??)

To save you all the hassle check your spark plugs & distributor first if you are getting a spark. To do that first take out the number one spark plug wire it will be the one closest to the distributor. Second take out the spark plug, then put the spark plug in the spark plug wire. Turn on the engine u should see a spark at the spark plug if your distributor is ok and spark plug. If not replace your distributor.
