SOURCE: 1996 saturn wont start when its hot-starter wont

According to the Haynes Manual there is a possible 3 grips: 1. Air Filter Clogged. 2. Fuel not reaching the fuel injection system. 3. Corroded battery connections, especially ground. Hope that helps.

1996 saturn wont start when its hot-starter wont even turn over-once it cools off it starts right back up

1. Engine has a gasket leak & when hot, prevents the engine from turning over because the cylinder is filled with steam/water & you just hear a click. A car with this problem could also have oil in the anti-freeze, or thin oil from antifreeze getting into the engine oil. You would also be adding coolant from time to time if this were the problem.

2. Starter has a warped main shaft that only has an effect when it's hot, the shaft returns more to the original shape when cold, allowing it to rotate & have proper contact electrically.

3. Other than that, it's just a matter of troubleshooting. I'm hoping you have a 12 Volt test light that clamps to a ground on one end & has a pointed tip with a light in the handle.

Go start it & get the engine hot to where the starter won't work. Have someone else turn the ignition switch for you as you use the tester on the main wire going from the solenoid to the starter. If it won't crank & you have voltage & your ground wire connection is also good, it would be the starter at fault.

There is also a thin wire there coming from the ignition switch through the neutral safety switch that makes the solenoid work that can be tested Hot & Cold to be sure that your ignition switch & neutral safety switch are both working properly when hot. If you get no voltage here when hot, you'll have to test the wiring through the Neutral safety switch to verify if it is at fault or it it is the Ignition switch.

Good Luck

1996 Saturn SL1 - 1.9L-4 cyl. will not start. The starter turns the engine O.K.,there is fuel pressure in the line but no spark.Yet after connecting OBD II reader-it says there are no fault codes.....So...

possible coil pack which is a semi popular failed item on these vehicles....sometimes the pack will fire cold ,then break down hot. Another cause of failure is bad/open plug wires where the kv's have no where to go except right through the heart of that pack and to the easiest path to ground...check pink wires for 12v to the pack and if thats present you might need that puppy....good luck

1996 sl1 water pump went out...replaced then it super overheated....thermostat must have stuck....then it worked fine except now it won't start cold I have to push start it. Then it is hard to start on...

Be sure your coolant level is OK first. When a water pump or other cooling system part is replaced air blocks in the system are not uncommon. If the engine overheated, this could have fried the coolant temp. sensor (ECT) causing the hard starting. (It might think the  engines always hot) ECT are pretty cheap. Just replace it and see what happens.

1996 satun will not turn over

Your starter is bad. Replacing it will fix your problem. The solenoit is kicking in (click) but thermal expansion (heat) is exxaggerating an internal problem. When its cold, the internal tolerances are larger.

1996 Saturn SL, 4 cylinder, auto trans.. Car starts and runs fine. However if you turn off the ignition when the car is hot, the car will not start again until the engine cools down. When you turn the key...

Form the saturn..........when starters age they tend to have problems when engine hot.You need to replace the starter.
As for the wagon it sounds like some sort of ignition problem if it's turning but not starting........I have seen o2 sensors cause this behavior. However to be sure you need to obtain an OBDII code reader to be positive of the issue.
Thanks for choosing FIX YA!
