Jeep grand cheerkee.
what year.?
which of 3 engines> or more>?
my guess is revving , means, (its good word)
means, car dont move?
the transmission slips? (engine RPM rises fast , but car does not accelerate in the same proportions)
or the RPM fail to rise, that means the engine Lacks power
those 2 are polar opposites.
engine problem
transmission slip. (flare)
2 paths to walk. do not guess. or it gets expensive fast.
Hi, if you mean starter motor of the engine then it is always on the lower side of the engine mostly left side near the transmission case as it is attached to flywheel.
You can locate it easily by following the thickest positive battery cable. It is joined to the starter motor....But what do you want it for?
Hope you don't mind me asking? Regards Johngee10
So you have B+ to coil but no B+ from coil to distributor. Sounds like the ignition module.
Its not triggering coil to fire . Double check it with a test light at negative side of coil and then to ground.crank the vehicle if light flickers its ok if not its your culprit.
Should light flicker then test its the wires from coil to distributor, distributor , rotor and plug wires.
Honestly if the light flickers your not losing anything by replaceing the items from the coil tower to the plugs.
1. disconnect battey negative cable.
2. locate starter and remove any wires from the starter, making sure to note their locations.
3. remove the two bolts that hold the starter in.
4. pull statrer out of vehicle.
5. reverse to install new starter
the starter solenoid is on top of the starter, the starter is on the bottom rear of engine, the problem u are discribing is a defective starter solenoid, with this type of starter I doubt that tapping on it will make the truck start, u will need to replace the starter solenoid.
starter relay is in power distribution center near battery. don't know which engine you have, but if you flollow the positive cable on the battery, it will lead you to the starter. Most are not difficult to replace, depends on how much experience you have. One tip...dont overtighten wire connections on starter the solenoid cover is plastic and can break.
Look under the passenger side, behind the tire. It's up under there, so you will have to crawl under to find it. You'll see a silver/black can shaped thing.
