To drain transmission fluid you must remove the transmission pan, filter is usually inside the transmission you can access it when the pan is off, use "Right Stuff" brand rtv sealant instead of a gasket. When using rtv sealant apply a thin bead, do not smear it with your finger or anything else just install the pan with a thin bead on it, tighten bolts to only 10 inch/lbs max, or check for the specs at autozone.

Every morning trans stays inin first drive awhile it shifts works fine till next morn

Sounds like dirty transmission fluid, and dirty transmission filter...have you checked the fluid level? Also a sign of low fluid...before a problem? If you don't want to have the fluid and filter changed...you can try adding a bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission stabilizer fluid...about $12 at Walmart...you can add a bottle without having to drain anything...least costly fix to your problem...hope this helps.

Where is the transmission drain plug on 97 mitsubishi mirage?

If you are referring to an automatic transmission, most manufacturers no longer put a drain plug on them. This is to prevent removal of the wrong plug when changing the engine oil. Also, since manufacturers recommend changing the transmission filter when the transmission oil is changed, having to remove the pan to drain the oil is incentive to replace the filter at the same time.

99dodge 2500 4wd 360 eng. transmission doesn't change correctly and 4 we does not engage at times.

Knocking on cold start may be hydraulic valve lifter collapsed until engine builds oil pressure. Quality oil filters contain anti-drain back valves which help prevent this, while cheap filters do not. Try using Wix filters and quality oil in correct weight for your local expected temp range. Trans issue may relate to dirty trans filter. When did you last change trans filter and fluid?

you have dirty cervo valves.Pour one pint of deisel fuel into transmission let run for approx.5 minutes.Drain all of fluid out.Change filter on front of transmission(it looks like a oil filter)replace fluid and that should take care of problem.

49,976 miles, transmission fluid is dark and dirty, should i flush

hi normally 49,000 miles is not allot , its about 60,000 that you do this, but if it is dark and dirty it sounds like it does need a drain and new oil, when you drain it, have a magnet handy and hold it under the oil as it drains and see if there are shards of metal if it is very dirty you may be having internal problems.....hope this helps

The oil got very dirty due to long use

Get a tube of permatex and put the pan back on...the oil filter is mounted to the block on the outside.
Looking up from the pan, it's a canister filter about the size of a soup can, threaded into the lower side of the engine just above the pan.

The filter is internally-threaded, and mounts on a short nipple spout....turn it counter-clockwise to remove, and put the new filter on hand-tight plus a short snug with the filter wrench*.

*A simple tool, about $5-10 at Autozone.

**For future oil changes, simply remove the drain bolt from the pan, and swap the filter.

Oil draining out from engine

It sounds like they did not tighten the oil filter properly. There is a by pass valve in the oil filter housing to allow oil to flow though just in case if the oil filter is plugged up with dirty from lack of oil change. Good luck and hope this help and what was the oil pressure reading on your dash gauge. Over tightening the oil filter can cause the o-ring to leak, as to not having the filter on tight enough.

Looking to change the oil on my V6 AWD 2004 SRX. Where is the drain plug and filter case located? What size wrenches are needed?

Locate the drain plug, size 13mm, drain the oil, replace drain plug. The oil filter is located by the dipstick. Replace filter put 5.6qtz of 5w-30 synthetic and you are good to go. and the oil filter is located to the right of the engine cover if your looking in at it. It looks like a small cast iron canister with a nut on top (its all molded together). unscrew the top of that and it is in there, the oil wrench come and can adjust to different size, I assume you never done an oil change and don't have any tools. go to any local auto parts store and tell them you need everything from oil, filter, removal tools, oil pan, funnel and they will give you everything you need ans some advice. when you put the filter back on, I would only do hand tighten. make sure you rub a bit of oil around the new rubber seal on your new filter using your figure. Buy the time you spend for all the tools what what need for oil change you will spend as much as having the pro do it, Oil change has been cheaper to change now day compair doing it your self. many places are offering 19.95 to 29.95 oil change, its worth all the hassle to let them do it. do the math, filter 6.00, 6qt of oil 27.00, tools 8.00, funnel 3.00, oil pan 12.00 right there is 56.00 buck plus you get to craw under the car and get dirty.
