Question about 2005 Hyundai Tiburon

1 Answer

My 2005 Tiburon GT's rear brake pads appear shot, but the front still look great. Every other car I've had--the opposite has always been the case. Is this "normal" for the Tiburon?

This is normal cos the pads on the rear are smaller than the fronts.....remember to always leave the car in park NOT in nuetral, cos it WILL run away when the rear brakes get cold......

To change out rotors and pads on a 2005 tiburon, is it pretty straight forward like most other brakes?

Pretty much... Just make sure the pads fit in with out forcing them. If they are too tight, it will bind up. Go to for some video's on how to do jobs. Just search for brake replacement.

How do you push in the cylinder in rear brakes to change pads on a 2005 tiburon

The Tiburon's rear disk brakes are self-adjusting to compensate for pad wear. You need to twist the piston clockwise to retract it into the caliper. You should do this using a special tool from Hyundai. Alternatively, you can get generic rear brake caliper tool at most auto parts stores that you can use on the end of your ratchet.

Or, you can be really careful with a pair of channel-lock pliers and grip the edge of the piston, allowing you to twist it back into the caliper.

I have an 06 hyundai tiburon gt v6 and im replacing the rear brake pads but the caliper pistons seem to be stuck! is there any way they are tied into the front brakes r is this just stuck caliper...

On cars with 4 wheel disc brakes the rear calipers are what they call racheting. The pison needs to be turned clockwise at the same time you are pushing in.This mechanisum is for the E brake system. They make special tools for doing this that you can pick up at your local parts store.
