Misfire in two cylinders

Replaced camshaft sensor because the check engine light trouble code indicated that problem also checked injectors,gas ,spark and still misfire .Engine starts fine even before replacing the sensor but shakes while running and while driving it is rough no much power.V-8 4.0 engine

    Even if the misfires are not from the same coil pack?the misfires are in the #2 and #8 cylinders.Will a compression test will wise to do or something electrical(Coil pack) is causing the misfire

    The misfires are in #2 and #5 cylinders not #8.

    The problem was to reset the camshaft sensor with the crankshaft sensors (relearn).no misfire ever since and no more trouble code even with the old camshaft sensor.

Check to see if the two cylinders misfiring are on the same coil pack. If so, change the coil pack in question.

This happened to me on 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine.

Also, check for a blown head gasket with compression test.

    If all of your sensors are ok. Then, you can check compression to see if you get 'normal' readings expected for your engine.



    Sometimes a blown head gasket between cylinders can cause a rough condition.



    This happened to me on a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais and was difficult to diagnose.

    Also, the o2 sensor can cause a random miss if not working right. But, this would throw and o2 sensor code, usually.

Check the plug wires and see if you crossed them, the camshaft senor only times the crank every 180 degrees of rotation and would not cause the miss, do you have a distributor? or a coil pack? if it's a coil pack chances are you have a bad coil pack or fireing plate.

    check that the fireing diode is ok on the pack if it's defective it will cause it to misfire.

    You need to test the cylinders for compression also you should have put dialetric greese on both ends of the boots of the plug wires or the coil pack can misfire to ground on the engine block or even the coil pack itself.

I hope I can help with this. This could mean the engine spark plugs or plug is the issue. Also check the exhaust pipe. White smoke indicates a coolant issue. Check your coolant reservoir. Black smoke indicates a Fuel issue. Blue is an oil issue. Also, speaking of your spark plugs there very well could be a misfire.

the code P303 could be cylinder 3 misfire
P102 the mass air flow sensor which is on the air filter cover. It's an electrical part and is sensor. Please check these and let me know.

2000 trail blazier with random misfire,sulfur smell, glowing convertor. New cap,rotor button plugs,plug wires and convertor NO CHANGE ! ANY IDEAS ?


Is the check engine light lit ? Any DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ? What engine ? 4.3 L vortex . Leaking fuel pressure regulator under the upper intake manifold . Leaking fuel injectors ! Ignition timing problem . How does the engine run ? Who installed the plugs an wires ? are they right ? Fuel pressure leak down test, fuel injector balance testing . Check distributor drive gear an slop in the shaft . Did you have distributor out ? Is it in the proper position ? What cylinder is misfiring ? engine mechanical problem ! What do spark plugs look like ? fouled , soaked with fuel . Do a engine compression test .
The camshaft drives the distributor shaft which rotates providing a spark to the correct cylinder by way of the cap and rotor. The camshaft position sensor functions much like the crankshaft sensor previously described but provides only a 1x signal to the VCM. That is, for every 2 rotations of the crankshaft, there is 1 rotation of the camshaft. Note that the CMP sensor will not affect driveability. The sole purpose of the CMP sensor is to provide the VCM with the necessary information for the misfire DTCs.

I have a 2002 Jaguar X-type. The check engine light came on and it has been acting jumpy/shaky. I recently took it to be diagnosed and the codes I recieved back were P1314, P1316, P1111, and P0302..What do...


All fault codes can be checked out at http://www.bluejag.co.uk but here are the results for some of yours. You can ignor P1111. Looks like a faulty plug or coil pack cylinder 2

Fault Code:- P1314 Indicates a Power-train fault


The fault is generally due to a problem in the Ignition or Misfire area


Fault Description: Misfire rate catalyst damage -bank 2 NOTE: This DTC will flag only when accompanied by an individual cylinder misfire DTC: P0300 - P0306

Action of ECM:- ECM Default:- Maximum engine speed reduced


After clearing the DTC, complete the Misfire monitor drive cycle
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

P0300 is multiple engine misfire detected
P0303 is misfire in cylinder 3
P0305 is misfire in cylinder 5
P0343 is camshaft position sensor A (bank 1)
P0347 is camshaft position sensor A (bank 2)
P0368 is camshaft position sensor B (bank 1)
P0392 is camshaft position sensor B (bank2)
P0496 is EVAP Canister Purge System High Purge Flow

2003 Hyundai Sonata with 4 cyl. PO301 error code. Have replaced spark plugs, wires, coil packs, and mass air flow sensor. Replaced air filter due to heavy gas smell. Car was starting after tapping gas 3...


P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder

Possible Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

CODES-PO301-PO303-PO316- CHANGED PLUGS & WIRES. STILL MISS ON START UP, GOES AWAY MOST OF THE TIME ABOVE 1000 R.P.M


P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak

Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected.
Follow info from P0301.

P0316 - Misfire Occurred In The First 1,000 Engine Revolutions.

Causes:
- Damaged CKP sensor.
- Ignition System.
- Fuel Injectors
- Running out of fuel
- Fuel Quality
- Base engine
- Damaged Powertrain Control Module

Solutions:
Usually the P0316 is combine with a P03XX codes. The P03XX code indicates in which cylinder the misfire occurred.

97 olds aurora code p0300. l have changed plugs,wires,coil packs and checked for vav leaks and compresion all good injectors good. but stil have code p0300. i have 3 cylinders not working...


Explanation: The powertrain control module monitors the crankshaft speed and has detected a misfire condition. Probable cause: 1. Ignition system fault-spark plugs, ignition wires, coil. 2. Vacuum leak 3. injector fault. high or low fuel pressure
Since I just fought with this on a 97 Grand Am. We found 17lbs. gas pressure at high idle. (very low) The car idled fine but would not run when hot. Please, please, please get the gas system checked first. Would have saved me two months of "trying" things. Replacing the fuel pump is expensive and complex. Knowledge about the electric and fuel system a must.

1999 jeep cherokee 6 cylinder engine light


1.Plugs
2. Vacuum leak
3. Injector fault
4. High or low fuel pressure.
Thats the list of things to check.
This is a #3 cylinder misfire.
There is also TSB about #3 injector needing added heat protection. This could definitely be the cause. I start at plugs and go from there.

Engine light is on...


P0137--O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage-Bank 1 Sensor 2

P0139--O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response-Bank 1 Sensor 2

P0152--O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage-Bank 2 Sensor 1

P0300--Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire


I would suspect that the camshaft position sensor is bad. This is a quote from the tech manual:

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses the camshaft position sensor to manage sequential fuel injection and as part of misfire diagnosis. The PCM constantly monitors the number of pulses on the signal circuit. The PCM compares the number of camshaft sensor reference pulses and the number of crankshaft position sensor reference pulses received. If the PCM receives an incorrect number of pulses, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) should be stored in the PCM. Some PCM systems will then default to multi-port or "gang-fire" injector operation. The camshaft position sensor signal is required to sequence the injector operation to the proper cylinder timing. If the camshaft position sensor or circuit is faulty, most engines will start. However, the PCM misfire diagnostic will likely be affected.

The part costs $50.....simple to change. It is NOT the O2 sensors so don't go wasting money on those. They are being affected due to related symptoms....they fault because the problem is happening upstream.

5.3 L Missing and Rough Idle Intermittently


i have a 2001 chevy z-71 5.3L. I keep getting a random/multiple misfire code for cylinder 1 . I have replaced plugs, wires, coil pack(only on #1 cylinder)., and fuel pump. I still keep getting the cylinder 1 misfire code. I put truck on a scanner and watched the cylinders. # 1 misfires at idle but quickly stops misfiring at around 1000 rpms. you can here the engine miss at idle but truck runs great on road . anyone else ever had this problem?
