Question about 1995 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

My 1995 Toyota COrolla 160i GL is not charging when running, I have taken out the dashboard to recolour it, now the car is not starting. The check engine light is not coming on when the ignition is on. I have looked for any obvious loose connections/earths that have not been earthed properly to no avail. I have checked the IGN and GAUGE fuses. I am sure I can solve this eventually with your help.

I forgot to mention that I have just got the alternator back from the auto elec. It should have been repaired and tested.

    OK, here is an update:

The car is starting fine again. I cannot test the voltage output of the alternator, but as it has just been returned by the auto electrician let's assume it is working 120%.

The dash is still out the car, and all the wires are visibly in perfect condition. I have used a circut tester to check for shorts (none were found) and I have tried with another battery. Still nothing.

Maybe you need to check if your alternator is actually charging it should charge between 13.8 &14.2 volts also check for any blown fuses...hope this helps.....cheers

maybe when you put the dash back in you have got a wire caught somewhere and it has been crushed between the dash & the metal, it could also be severed, but do make sure that the alternator is putting a charge into the battery.....hope this helps a bit more.....cheers

Sounds as if the the turn signal switch is defective. Replace the switch in your steering column.
