Engine oil light flashing

Flashing oil light indicates a loss of oil pressure. No oil pressure will cause the engine to seize up. Check the oil level, if full verify that the oil sending unit is connected correctly. Listen for unusual engine noise (Shut down immediately to avoid damage to the engine), connect an oil pressure gauge to the oil sending port (remove sending unit) and verify oil pressure. the issue could be a loose connection, broken connection or plugged sending unit, as well as loss of oil pressure.

Oil light flashing on intermittently when at temperature and only at idle. Car 2008 Mitsubishi van Have had vehicle into Mitsubishi Agent and 2nd mechanic who all say vehicle in very good condition...

Well technically you should be using a 10W-30 with a vehicle like that unless it calls for a heavier grade. If the oil level is good (don't overfill it otherwise it can cause the light to go off) check the oil pressure switch and the oil sender unit. It is possible the oil pump is bad if it is fluctuating pressure or from running to heavy of a grade of oil you may have damaged the pump. The pump can test fine during diagnostics but usually wont fluctuate until under load.

Oil light comes on when stopped but oil level is ok

The oil pressure can be low. We need to check it by connecting an gauge at the oil sending unit.

Also check whether the oil grade is the right one specified for your car.If oil pressure s low this can happen and try no to drive the car as much as possible because driving under low oil pressure may damage the engine.

Overheating

Did you ever replace the thermostat? If it is stuck then it would also cause overheating...Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.
