The gasoline tank should be lowered and the sending unit and gauge should be replaced. The fuel pump is probably ok.

Fuel system electrical short

You will need to check the connector to the fuel tank, this sounds like a poor connection not a short, if it was a short a fuse would blow.

Check Engine light comes on and gives a 463 code

This ultimatly will be a problem with your fuel pump. The actual code references the fuel sending unit voltage.. I suspect that your fuel gauge is not operating properly either. The fault is likely with the fuel level sending unit, but on most modern cars its built into the fuel pump.

Good luck.

My Ford Taurus 2005/ Orange engine is always on, anyone have any ideas why my check engine light is on?

You need to get it scanned. Some auto parts stores will do this for free, but the help will be limited. There are many codes, so get it scanned, and go from there.

Yellow engine symbol appeared on the dashboard of my 2005 Ford Taurus.

The engine shaped dash warning icon/symbol represents the "Check Engine Light", CEL for short.
It could be because of several things that can make the light come on. Perform a scan on the car and identify the error codes . Autozone can scan the codes for free.

2005 ford taurus engine light on

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. This may reset the lights timer. If it comes back on within the next few days the take it to a large auto parts store and most will bring their computer out and hook it to your car and read the code the light will leave in your car computer, then they tell what the code says and try to sell you the part. You might car the auto parts store first and tell them what you have and ask if then can read your code for you.Its usually a free service.

Check engine light 05 taurus

From what I understand even a "qualified" Ford mechanic has problems locating this and if you look at a pre-2000 Haynes or Chilton manual it shows it being in a completely different location but to answer your question from what I understand (never changed one myself) it's on the passenger side, under the dash and should be by the radio. Should be held on by one or two screws. Also easy to get to if the radio is removed.

Ford Taurus

I had all the same symptoms, would crank, but sometimes not start, guages would not come up immediately, and sometimes several trouble/warning lights would light. Also, my computer display settings would change. I also noticed that some of my radio setings would change too. Well, when I recently replaced my weak battery (original factory battery), all of the problems/symptoms went away. So, it was either the weak battery, or disconnecting the battery reset/fixed some kind of computer glitch? I think it was just a bad battery all along. Have your battery checked, even though it cranks, it may be delivering low current/voltage which affects the computer and other electronics. Hope this helps!
