If you had it checked out the Mechanic should have hooked up a OBD II scanner to receive the Trouble Diagnostic Codes to it. The codes will reveal why your Check Engine light is on and how to fix it. You can go to your local Autozone store and they can read your codes for free and let you know what the problem is. The Traction light being on is all related to the Trouble Code you have. Once you fix the problem both lights will turn off.

Code 340 is for a problem with the cam position sensor. That would affect the tach and cause the check engine light to be on.
And most all the time the check engine light is on the other warning lights will be also. The Traction control system uses the engine and the ABS system to function. So if there is a problem with the engine, the TCS will be disabled.
The cam sensor and circuits would need to be tested. It could be a wiring problem.

2005 Impala 3.8L LS with service traction light on dashboard

It's usually the sensor inside the wheel hub or the wiring harness to the brake controller. The service traction light will set a trouble code. If your mechanic is stumped, authorize him to call a GM tech support line. The call is $50, but the GM tech support can help him figure out what's wrong.

no the junky autozone scanner does not work on alot of cars its a orange actron scanner and it uses the wrong ground wire in the connector to talk to the cars computer and 80% of the cars dont use that wire to talk,,so who ever made that scanner didnt do there home work,,if you use a good scanner it will be ok,we had that same problem with that same scanner,,,all the time,,so we threw it away and got good ones and it works with every car, those guys at autozone are a joke, and the scanner is even worse,,your computer is fine,,why the light is on i dont know it could be honestly 1000 things,,go to mthe dealer

What does it mean when the ETS light and the check engine light are on?

Check engine light is for telling you that there is A problem with the fuel injection or emissions system, Most of the time there is no major problem to really wory about. ETS is the light for the Enhanced Traction system (traction control) This is not A vital component of your car.

If these two lights come on together then the extra traction sensor is broken and needs to be replaced when the sensor is fixed the check engine light will go off and the ets light will work properly again.

1999 volvo s40 2.0 turbo, engine fault caused after hard accelera

well that can be a pain to deal with down unda!

Personally i think the traction control and the stumbles are not related. find out what the check engine light is, and go from there, could be as simple as a coil over, coil or set of plugs/wires or could be a gummed up throttle body, or vacuum leaks, check all the vaccum lines clean the throttle body test drive and , find the code and do some research and or post the code here and i will try to get back to you. a misfire code can be really helpful if it tells you which cylinder, if your over due for plugs just buckle down and replace them.i say
dont throw parts at it because it might not help and get expensive, but cleaning the throttle body and checking vacuum lines, replacing plugs should be preventative maintenance in my book.
use a throttle body cleaner can you can get a local parts store to clean out the throttle body. dont use carb cleaner as it could damage sensors,
if your mind is stuck on the traction control and or you get the stumbling fixed start on that here :

for the hard shifts check the transmission fluid for dark colors or burnt smells. then check out the motor mounts and trans mounts, but that should be done before moving onto the Traction control.

anyways if you suspect the traction control start with checking all the abs sensors. can use a good scanner with live data to save you time and check to see if they are all giving you good readings.
if no scanner is available you need to see if they can be removed from the hub, but be careful as they can break off inside. if they are removable from the hub check them for metal particles and make sure they arnt ground down on the ends, a bad hub will grind down the ends of them. if they look good then let me know
Good luck.

Car won't start says check traction control

the car should still start even with somthing wrong with the traction control. sounds like you have a dead battery. i would check it first. and if battery is dead charge it and start the car then take it to your local advance auto and have the altinator checked thay do it for free. if a charged battery dont start the car then you may have a bad starter. again the traction control light will not keep the car fromk starting
