I've had experience with two of these cars now. The mounting positions where the steering rack bolts to the fire wall rust away leaving the rack floating. Usually long before the rack starts to float the car leaks . Water starts to come in where the firewall rusted out. Its dangerous and should not be driven like this.

My 2001 grand marque steering tpop loose

Take it to a shop where they know what they are doing.
Almost sounds like the care was in a wreck and improperly repaired.
I highly recommend you not drive it until you discover the problem.
Some part you have not mentioned are the steering column, the steering box where it is fastened to the frame, the motor mounts, and the steering knuckles holding the front wheels on.
God bless your efforts.

2002 2.2L engin 4 cylinder Pontiac grand am steering wheel don't lock after driving car. in park position and remove the keys. Steering wheel moves freely?? It's it the ignition switch going bad??

The ignition lock includes the steering wheel lock. It's possible that it just needs lubrication, or that the lock part has broken. In either case, taking the covers off the steering column sounds like your next move.

Rack pinion

There is one adjustment to the steering gear, but this doesn't remove very much play in the steering. And once set, I have never seen them back off ( it's the big nut on the back of the rack, break it loose, then turn the inner nut, Just a little through. You get it to tight and it will be hard to turn). If you have a lot of play, look at the tierod ends, inner and out. There are also two universal joints on the steering shaft that could cause a lot of play. One by the rack and one under the dash. There are bushings/bearing that hold the steering shaft in place, These don't cause much left or right play, they will cause the steering wheel to be sloppy at the column.

How to troubleshoot loose steering wheel column on my 97 mercedes e320

It appears by you description that the position lock is not clamping up. position the wheel where you want it and look just under the dash for a lever or knob that will tighten up and hold the column in place.

How do i tighten up the steering column on my 1995 oldsmobile aurora

There are YouTube videos on making repairs to GM tilt columns.
You have to remove the steering wheel to access the pivot joint and bolts. It takes a puller tool to get the wheel off and you have to disarm the air bag system.

Hi, this is about my moms grand cherokee 93. The

Is the steering wheel its self coming up or the shaft were it connects in the floor coming up. This would help me solve your problem . If its the wheel there is a 18mm nut behind the air bag that holds the steering to shaft.
2ND If it is in the floor shaft there should be a bolt holding the two shafts together, you might have to pull carpet back to see if bolt is in the slot that holds the two shafts together.
If i can be any help just repost. Thanks, dodge tec
