Timing procedures must be followed exactly or piston and valve damage can occur.

  1. Remove Engine Front Cover. where are the timing chain - f150_46_crnk-snsr-rng.gif

  2. Remove crankshaft sensor ring from crankshaft.
  3. Rotate crankshaft until right camshaft timing mark is at approximately 11 o’clock and left camshaft timing mark is at approximately 12 o’clock.

  4. Install special tools 303-380 and 303-413 onto camshaft. f150_46_97_tim-ch-ten-guides.gif

  5. Remove timing chain tensioner bolts.
  6. Remove timing chain tensioners.
  7. Remove timing chain tensioner arms.
  8. Remove timing chains and crankshaft sprocket.

  9. Remove left timing chain guide bolts.
  10. Remove left timing chain guide.
  11. Remove right timing chain guide bolts.
  12. Remove right timing chain guide.
To Install:
CAUTION
Timing chain procedures must be followed exactly or damage to valves and pistons will result.
  1. Use a vise to compress tensioner plunger. f150_54_ten-retain-clip.gif

  2. Install a retaining clip on tensioner to hold plunger in during installation. f150_54_tim-ch-copper-link.gif

  3. If copper links are not visible, mark 2 links on one end and 1 link on other end, and use as timing marks.
  4. Install crankshaft sprocket with flange facing forward.
  5. Install left and right timing chain guides.
  6. Tighten timing chain guide bolts to 89 in-lb (10 Nm). CAUTION
Do not rotate either the crankshaft or camshafts with the timing chains removed and the cylinder heads installed unless otherwise instructed. Severe piston and valve damage will occur.
NOTE: Top dead center for cylinder 1 is when the stud on the engine block fits into the slot in the handle of special tool 303-448.

  9. Install lower end of left (inner) timing chain onto crankshaft sprocket; align timing mark on outer flange of crankshaft sprocket with single copper (marked) link on chain.
  10. Install upper end of left (inner) timing chain onto camshaft sprocket with camshaft sprocket timing mark positioned between 2 copper (marked) chain links. NOTE: The left timing chain tensioner arm can be identified by its bump, located near its dowel hole.
  11. Install left timing chain tensioner arm on dowel pin.
  12. Install left timing chain tensioner arm bolts. Tighten to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).

My 2000 linclon ls 6 cly cranks but sounds terriable just started doing it

I hope it's not the timing chain tensioner,Chris. I know the 2000 V8 engines had bad tensioners.
Could it be a loose starter or the starter drive is hanging up in the flywheel teeth?
Could it be a really bad DRIVE BELT TENSIONER or the idler pulley gone bad?
It's just difficult to say,but I hope it's not the TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS. Lot of miles on it? don-ohio (:^)

Impossible. This is a dual cam engine. There is a camshaft in each cylinder head. The head cannot be removed without removing the timing chain.

P0305 misfire in cylinder 5

take the main pulley off and the harmonic balencer off and re-time the marks on the timing chain to make sure that your timing marks are perfecto if that doesn't help then re-time your distributor with the distributor gun if that doesn't help replace the spark plug and wire in cylinder 5 and if that doesn't work then you are probably gonna have to take the motor apart and replace the rods or bearings or valves

Where are the timing marks on a 2000 gmc jimmy to put it at top dead center

Is this a 4.3 V6 or ? You will have to get some carb cleaner and a rag and wipe the grease off of the timing mark plate on the timing chain cover of the front of the engine next to your harmonic balance.
