At idle the engine runs fine? If the accelerator pedal is pressed, then what happens? I just need to clarify your condition.

k will runs k when idle when the accel is pushed the first it will come up on rpms a little then drop and get rough it will stay runnning but bearly and then die out (not able to be drivin) i have also cleaned out the fuel rail and the tips of injectors

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 03, 2010

Do you have the OHC or double OHC engine. when you say tune up, was the spark module replaced also. I suspect weak spark.

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 03, 2010

Is there any trouble codes stored in the PCM memory?

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 03, 2010

How many miles are on the vehicle?

  • micey72 Jul 03, 2010

k brand new plugs ingnition modul;e and wires coil pack and pcv valce it is the 3.1 liter engine not sure if it is dohc or sohc btu i belive it is double ohc high milige 150,000

  • micey72 Jul 03, 2010

none other than tps weak signal when it is running rough for about ten min than it comes on the dreaded ck engine light but i have since cleared codes and none have come back

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 03, 2010

What was the code that was cleared? It seems everything that would cause this problem has been replaced. Is it possible the timing belt jumped a tooth?

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 03, 2010

Here is another thing I forgot about. Although you have an earlier year, I can not confirm your year does not have this option...it may just.

k well all codes have been cleared there is a sol or valve type thing on top of the tb is that a possabillity

  • micey72 Jul 03, 2010

also one thign i forgot to metion is that the car wil remaine running even after i press on the gas is it poss abily that the fuel pressure reg is faulty and not keeping the pressure up where it needs to be for long enough to do much more than idle and very little throllle for more than two sec

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 04, 2010

It is the fuel pressure regulator, I assumed the fuel pressure was ok and constant.

  • micey72 Jul 04, 2010

k so that seams to be very good and consectant advice i will go after that on the next few days on this modle it is betweeen the two fuel rails right

  • GetMeOttaHere Jul 04, 2010

    We were not sure of the engine type, but it should look something like this;

You should test the fuel pressure first, and be sure it maintains pressure.

  • micey72 Jul 04, 2010

yes it kinda looks something like that it is a 3.1 multiport fuel injection six cylinder sixinjectors

Why does my 99 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharge keep stalling

I would check the idle air control valve before replacing anything.
The computer regulates the idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.
The valve could be faulty, or the throttle body can be gummed up.
Is the check engine light on ?

I have a 2000 grand prix and i changed the intake gasket and it will idle the die

Take a can of carburetor cleaner and spray it around the whole parimeter of the intake gasket you just replaced while the engine is running. If the idle increases while your spraying it that will mean the gasket is not sealed properly

My 1993 pontiac grand prix with the 3.1 engine stalls when it idles at a stop light but it starts right back up. it has plenty of power. we changed the o2 sensor did the vaccum leaks and ths spark plugs....

The next thing to try in regards to the stalling would be to change out the Throttle Position Sensor this sensor is the usual cause of this symptom.

High Idle 2

I would look at the codes,, jumper the two upper connector holes in the diagnostic link with a paperclip,, turn the key on, and read the blinks of the check engine light,, first will come 3 12 codes then any error codes. If you get a repair manual for that vehicle it will tell you how to perform these tests.

Grand prix wont idle

There are 3 things that should be checked.
The idle air control valve (some call it a fuel bypass valve)
Throttle position sensor
and a fuel pressure test done. The idle air control is usually mounted on the throttle body, so is the tps which has a black plastic casing. good luck.
