It sounds like maybe the starter solenoid is defective, they are prone to this type of problem and your description exactly fits. In order to repair this you must remove the starter from the car and either replace it or repair it with a new solenoid.
Switch on head lights or cabin light. If they doesn't come on or is weak, the battery is flat. Ensure that you switch off the lights. With ignition switched on, assuming the lights on the instrument panel cames on and your immobiliser is deactivated, turn ignition to start. You should hear the solenoid at the starter making a click sound. If not, the battery is flat or the starter solenoid is faulty. If it does make a click sound, the battery could be too low to turn the starter or the starter is faulty. Assuming the immobiliser is working correctly, and the starter tries to turn the engine but it doesn't want to turn, the gasket could be blown and the cylinder filled with water, or the engine could be seized. Hope it is not the last case. MarioCpt
When the design of starters (NipponDenso) in these cars fail to crank the engine over they most often make a clicking noise but don't turn the engine over, what you may have going on here is a poor connection at the starter, disconnect the battery negative cable and go under the truck and loosen and then tighten the starter connections, all of them and see if that cures the problem. If that doesn't remove the starter and replace the starter solenoid assembly, it most likely can be purchased separately.
Sounds like the starter solenoid or the starter itself - probably needs replacing but check the wiring at the starter first (loose connection, frayed wires, etc.).
sounds like you blew a head gasket or cracked the head it will be expensive to repair. anytime you have white smoke coming out the exhaust you have water in the conbustion chamber.
sounds like you are on the right track, the battery you have in it has done well to last that long but it sounds like a fell cells have decided to call it quits
anne, it sounds to me like dampness in the ignition process, if the engine is turning over at the turn of the key, then check the rubber ring seal inside your distributer cap(thats the coloured plastic cap with all the leads to the spark plugs) if its perished or showing signs of distortion, replace the whole cap. if its seems ok then try starting your engine at night or at least grey dark, open the bonnet and watch for sparks coming from any of the HT leads ( cable like things) that go to the spark plugs. If present either spray with "sparkseal"(short term solution) or replace the leads.Try this and if it doesn,t solve it , get in touch ok?
