Have the codes read, these are prone to a fault in the converter and a control solenoid, mine needed a rebuild

99 dodge stratus 2.4L top transmission line off of radator to put dual fan assembly in because trans line was in way now im haveing problems shifting now i changed the transmission fuild and filter


make sure you check the level of fluid in the transmission while it is running. Make sure all lines are sealed and tight. Check after each short run too. The filter will need to absorb fluid to push the air out.

Check that the Solenoid pack electrical connector is clean and secure.

I own a 1990 geo tracker 4x4 with automatic transmission it jumps out of 3rd gear

hot and cold engine do this? both?

does jumps mean.
OD kicks in and out.
or jumps to 2n
or jumps to false neutral, (called SLIPS, or FLARE)

this trans is 99.5% mechanical, Hydramatic shifted trans, except OD.
we cant help you if you dont say what it jumped TOO.

make sure the linkage to the shifter is workiing correctly.
check trans ATF levels (dexron III or higher) per the operators
guide.

When the OD light flashes it means the transmission has developed a fault. As to what the fault may be is yet to be seen without the system being scanned. In many cases the light indicates the transmission is slipping, you may not feel it slipping, but the computer (called the PCM) senses it through the internal speed sensors that measure main shaft input speed and shaft output speed in RPM. Other problems like shift solenoids can cause this as well. Another factor can be the transmission fluid is worn out, it should be replaced along with a new filter every 60,000 miles minimum.

I have a 2006 toyota sequoia, while driving the A/T Oil Temp come ON.


This is an indication that the transmission is not in OD. run fault codes to see if the servo/ solenoid is operational. Check oil level . Have a tranny pressure test done to determine if there are internal problems . Replace the oil and clean the filter . have the bands and clutch packs adjusted . Lastly as most transmission coolers are in the radiator check the engine operating temperature as it may be close to overheat.

2003 Grand Cherokee laredo with p1762 trouble code. Found that transmission fuild was down over 2 qts. Added fuild, then reset the code. Code went away. Should I still have mechanic check this?

you have sorted the problem, the fault code that you had is caused by low transmission fluid. BUT.....
you still have to check the transmission for leak, to find out why the fluid went down that much

2002 Ford Explorer 5R55W transmission had intermediate band and servo piston replaced. Shifted OK for 1-2 months, then developed 2-3 shift flare. Servo bores then rebushed. Helped, but still has...


Band adjustment is very sensitive on these units, I set both adjustments at one turn. This is a 4 speed trans that has been converted to a 5 speed by turning on the od unit ( 1-2 shift ) in first gear.the 2-3 shift is busy because the od band is coming off causing the od unit to transfer back to 1:1 and the intermediate band is coming on . I have found that if the overdrive band is to loose it will release to fast causing a flare on the 2-3 shift bot not really affecting the 4-5 (overdrive) shift. So break both band adjustments loose and tighten the adjustment screw down and back off 1 turn the tighten jam nuts. Also the fluid level should be checked with the transmission warm ( 100 f , not hot, not cold) and the fluid should stream out of the check tube. Transgo makes a really nice vb kit that i use that will help these symptoms.

this OD light flashing means a fault has has been sensed by the transmission control module in the electronic transmission controls, to see what this fault might be have the transmission tested for electronic fault codes that are stored when this OD light flashes, many times this code will be for a transmission slipping issue, u will not fell this most times, if the transmission has more than 60,000 miles on it have the transmission fluid and filter changed and erase the codes, they may not come back

there is a couple of things you can do ,, reset you computer take the hot wire off your battery for 5 min. then if that dont work check transmission fuild,, dirty trans fuild cause transmission not to down shift and stall

AOD trans wont shift when cold


Ok I have no Idea who told you not to change the fluid? However there is a reason you have to drop the pan to drain it, or change filter and the reason for this is. So you cant just change fuild and leave dirty filter in, or change filter and leave dirty oil in. Your wouldnt just change one or another on your motor would you? lol Anywho your problem is either burnt fuild. Yes the fuild can be come burnt and lose it vascoity, and weight. (basicly your runing gravey through it.) lol Or the fuild is termendously dirty strained or not. FYI there are clutches in your transmission.... Have you ever heard of clutch dust? Well in an automatic because of the fuild its not clutch mud..... explaining why when its cold and the oil is super thick it has problems, but when it thins up when its warm its fine.

you may have damaged the overdrive gear, a local transmission shop would be your best bet. for good troubleshoting and estimate.
