Question about 2007 Toyota Avalon

Had to replace exhaust manifold because air sensor had fused itself to the manifold making it impossible to replace just the air sensor....is this a defect?

It is common to do just that.. I generally break the top off, drill a 1/4" hole in the middle and remove it with an easy out tol

I need to remove the exhaust manifold on the right side of a 94 4.9l engine in a cadillac deville. It has a broken bolt in the exhaust. What is involved in removing the manifold?


I suggest you use all new exhaust manifold hardware and torque new bolts to 20 Ft Lbs.
4.5L and 4.9L Engines
RIGHT
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air cleaner. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Disconnect the oxygen and coolant temperature sensors. Remove the catalytic converter-to-AIR pipe clip bolt. Remove the upper manifold-to-cylinder head bolts. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Disconnect the converter air pipe bracket from the stud and remove the converter-to-manifold exhaust pipe. Support the engine cradle with screw jacks and remove the rear cradle bolts. Loosen the front cradle bolts and slightly lower the Engine cradle. Remove the remaining exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head bolts, the AIR pipe, and the manifold. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
To install:
Install the exhaust manifold and replace the AIR pipe. Tighten the manifold mounting bolts to 16-18 ft. lbs. (21-24 Nm). Install the manifold-to-converter exhaust pipe and replace the converter air pipe bracket to the stud. Raise the Engine cradle and install the rear cradle bolts. Tighten to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm). Lower the vehicle. Replace the upper manifold-to-cylinder head bolts. Replace the converter air pipe to AIR pipe clip bolt. Connect the coolant temperature and oxygen sensor connectors. Replace the exhaust crossover pipe. Replace the air cleaner and connect the negative battery cable. Start the Engine and check for leaks.

On most vehicles, the sensors are screwed in to the exhaust pipes or exhaust manifolds, usually under the car/truck , in the vicinity of "under the front seat" area. They are usually the size of your thumb, and have a wire going to them.

Where is the egr valve located?


Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is usually located between the exhaust manifold and the engine air intake. Without any information about the make, model, engine and year of your vehicle it is virtually impossible to answer this question with any amount of accuracy.

What is a bank sensor for a honda civic ls 04


O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 should actually be read as: O2 sensor, bank 1, sensor 1. Meaning the first oxygen sensor (O2 sensor #1) on cylinder bank #1 (it's a Honda inline 4 -cylinder engine, so it only has one bank of cylinders; a V6 or V8 engine would have tow banks arranged in a V shape) needs to be replaced. The oxygen sensor will be threaded into the exhaust near where the manifold (or possibly threaded in at the manifold itself) with some wires coming out of it. p0134 is the upstream 02 sensor staying center and will cause a drivability problem. you don't need to replace both of them, the one at fault is the upstream one, mounted on the exhaust manifold.I do it under the vehicle while on a lift, if you can see it from behind the engine and access it, just remove it. spray it down with some penetrating liquid before attempting to remove it

My car burns gas very fast. where is the 02 sensor located? do i need a calib cabreter?


02 sensors are located in the exhaust the upstream ones are close to the engine in the rear exhaust manifold (for 6 cylinders) and at the front exhaust (for 4 cylinder). The downstream ones are behind the catalytic converter. Check to make sure the fuel pressure regulator on the to of the engine isn't leaking. Replace the air and fuel filter could be plugged. Check the coolant level in both the rad and the reservoir they are notorious for intake manifold and head gasket leaks for 6 cylinders. There aren't many calibration updates for this vehicle relating to fuel consumption.

Where are the four O2 sensors on a 2003 Montero Sport? Is $300 reasonable to replace the two upstream sensors?


According to the service literature I read, the 2003 Montero Sport with the 3.0 or 3.5 L engine does not have O2 sensors listed even in the maintenance schedule. The 2.4 L engine has it on the exhaust manifold though.

I think that $250 to $300 is reasonable if the Oxygen sensors are stuck in there with rust and the threads are preserved by the technician. Oxygen Sensor replacement can be tricky.

Exhaust Manifold

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

2.4L Engine


  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Negative battery cable

    CAUTION
    Wait at least 90 seconds after the negative
    battery cable is disconnected to prevent possible deployment of the air bag.


  2. Heat cowl from the exhaust manifold
  3. Aspirator valve assembly, if equipped
  4. Oil dipstick and guide
  5. Oxygen (O2S) sensor connector and ground cable, if equipped
  6. Exhaust pipe from the manifold
  7. Exhaust manifold and gasket from the engine
    To install:

  8. Install or connect the following:

    • Exhaust manifold. Torque the M8 mounting nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) and the
      M10 mounting bolts 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm). starting from the middle and working
      outward.
    • O2S sensor connector and ground cable, if equipped
    • Exhaust pipe to the manifold. Torque the nuts to 35ft. (49 Nm).
    • Aspirator valve assembly, if removed
    • Heat cowl to the exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 117 inch lbs. (13
      Nm).
    • Negative battery cable

  9. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.


3.0L and 3.5L Engines


  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Negative battery cable
    • Exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifolds
    • Oil dipstick, guide and O-ring
    • Heat shields
    • Exhaust manifolds

  2. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces. Inspect the manifolds for cracks,
    flatness and/or damage.
    To install:

  3. Install or connect the following:

    • New gasket and exhaust manifold. Torque the nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm) on
      3.0L engines and 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) on 3.5L engines.
    • Heat shield, Torque the bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
    • Exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifolds. Torque the nuts to 35ft. (49 Nm).
    • Oil dipstick, guide and new O-ring
    • Negative battery cable

  4. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.

BANK 1 SENSOR 1 IS THE ONE IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. BANK 2 SENSOR 2 IS BELOW THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

P0171 SHOULD GO AWAY WITH A GOOD O2 SENSOR BUT DO CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS TO BE SURE. 3.1/3.4L ENGINES HAVE A BAD DESIGN INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, THE LEAK OIL, COOLANT, AND AIR.

Have P0102 code and replaced the MAF sensor and connector still have the problem. Also replaced the air filter And did an oil change . Have cleared the code and it still comes back. Found a blown fuse and...


A code P0102 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
The MAF may be disconnected, or a wiring connection may be bad

The MAF may be dirty or otherwise contaminated (Note: if you use a reusable oiled air filter, be careful not to apply too much oil or that can contaminate the MAF).

The MAF Sensor may be faulty

The vehicle computer may be faulty (very rare)

The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back. Then start with the cheapest, easiest repair procedures:

Verify that the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires.

Inspect for any air leaks near the MAF sensor.

Take the MAF out and clean it using a spray cleaner such as brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner. Be gentle with the sensor.

Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information)

Replace the MAF sensor.

Good luck and hope this helps. You can try pulling the fuse to the ECM with the ignition key in the on position and then placing it back in after a few seconds. 
Then start the car, it may stall but let it and just start it over again. The ECM is just learning the engine and transmission again, making adjustments like it's the first start up during manufacturing and go for a test drive.
