12 v dc power outlet no power. i have checked the fuse in the fuse block it is good. Is there another fuse in line with the power port or something?

You may check the acessories fuse on the side of your dash. It may be no good either. You can look at a fuse, but the does not necessarily mean it is good. Your best bet is to just replace them period.

AUX/PWR 12 DC fuse # 23 25amp Under hood fuse / relay box.

There is no power to auxilary power ports, how can this item be repaired?


The answer is simple its a 1 wire system works just like the cigarette lighter and on the same circuit.You plug your device or what ever in to the port .The sides are the ground the contact point is the middle is HOT dc power .
The problem is the ground wire no ground no DC current .
Their is no fuse just the ground dosn't need a fuse .
The problem is you have to get at the back of the port witch is inside of the dashboard.
But its low so if you can crawl under the dash and repair there or run a jumper wire from a ground IE any peice of metal mounted to the body of the vehicle it should work again

i bet you didnt know there are 2 fuse boxes.

check all fuses in both boxes.

or read the drawings on alldata.com

see what fuse powers this acc. port.

the inverters suck big current and will blow a power port in jiffy

(read amps on inverter, and see, wow huge)

1000w is 83+ amps.

500w is 40 amps. both are fuse killers.

fuse that look bad are

fuses that look good, can in fact be bad, hair line cracks

use any ohm meter on low scale, 0ohms good. infinity bad.

to test any fuse.

1997 camry no power to radio


fuses that look bad are.
fuses that look good , can be , in FACT bad.
DMM, (flip to low ohms)
fuse reads 0 ohms, its good
fuse reads infinity its bad.
if fuse is good check for 12 at the radio power wire.
the radio must be ground do work, is it?
some radios have a separate ground wire (black) is it grounded?
post new radio make and model and can answer with 100% accuracy.
im a retire ET.

My 2006 VW Beetle continuously blows the Accessory fuse utilized for the power port for the cigarette lighter and underneath the center console. The proper fuse was replaced. Only my phone plugged in when...


Hi Troy,

Without seeing the ports of the car and the plug of your charger, it would be difficult to diagnose with any certainty. I do have a suggestion however. Your note suggests that other devices do not cause the fuse to blow when they are used - it is only the charger for the phone. Since the charger works in other cars, it is probably not an overload condition due to a defective charger, but more likely a mismatched set of contacts between the plug and power port in your car when the two are mated. Some cars have slightly different sized power ports that can be either too tight or too loose for some plugs. Too tight ports could be causing parts internal to the charger's plug or car's power port to short together and blow the fuse.

We can get around this be using a different plug. The easiest way is to find a cord set that will plug into your car's power port and provides a simple extension for 1, 2 or 3 outlets. These can be found in auto parts stores and the automotive departments of stores like K-Mart, Sears, etc. Some examples look like these:

Insert the plug into the power port - and check that the fuse does not blow by checking the fuse - not by plugging something into the the outlet on the cord. If the fuse remains good, then it is safe to assume that the problem with your charger and the car's power port has been eliminated, and the car's power is available at each of the outlets of the new cord.

Try plugging the charger into the outlet of the new cord. If all is well, the charger should be working as expected. What we have done is removed the charger / car power port combination from the equation, by providing a different combination to do the same thing - but without the same physical connection that causes the fuse to blow.

You could achieve the same results by changing the charger plug under the right conditions - but many chargers now a days have circuitry inside them that change the car's 12 volts to something different. If you can find the voltage out of the charger and are able to match it with another - it must be the same voltage, polarity, current and phone power connector of course - it should work, too. You must be absolutely sure of the power requirements and your rewiring - if not, stick with the addition of a cord described above.

You could test the point that power enters these devices when set to on for the presence of 12 -14VDC, while connecting the other lead of the tester to a point that is grounded. If your meter or tester indicates power is present, then it is indeed a ground problem. You'll need to figure out a way to restore the ground path to the device. If however, there is no indication of power, you'll need to test the wire(s) going back to the power source - fuse block, circuit breaker, fusible link, etc.

Don't forget to look for secondary fuse blocks under the hood, under a seat in the cabin, etc. Consult your owner's manual for the location of these power points and circuit safety devices.

Can't get charger ports to work all fuses are good


The rear auxilliary power outlet is powered by a 20Amp fuse located
in the right-side instrument panel fuse block. It is marked "RR PWR"

The front Auxilliary power outlet and the Cicarette lighter are
powered by the CIGAR/DLC/APO FRT fuse which is also located in the
right side instrument panel fuse block. This one is a 15Amp fuse.

If both of these fuses are good, then you either have wiring harness problems, or all of your outlets are unplugged.

The power outlet under the cup holders


check these fuses:

under the hood fuse panel:

#23 - auxiliary power
#25 - ac/dc inverter

instrument panel fuse panel:

#29 - retained accessory power

if these fuses are good and they have power at the fuse panel, the outlet itself may be bad. if your inclined and you have a test light you can check to see if the outlet has power going to it by probing the wires on the back of the outlet if you can get to them. test the red and white wire for 12v positive and test the black wire for a good ground. if those wires test ok then it its the outlet itself that is bad. if the wires do not test ok then there is a break in a wire somewhere which will have to be traced and repaired
