If you haven't replaced your water pump, chances are it could be the original part (OEM). This use a composite material impeller similar to hard plastic. They are prone to cracking at the shaft connection for the pulley and doesn't spin with the engine. Replace it with an aftermarket part which have metal impellers. I'd advice to invest on replacing your timing belt at this time because the water pump is behind the belt. Also keep in mind to use G12 only coolant (VW red coolant), these are phosphate free keeping the system cleaner.

My coolant isnt circulating,i have heat but low power and high rpm.my car will overheat if I climb hills.


Hey Rayna,,, if you are sure the coolant is not circulating..??.. Then the water pump is no longer functioning.. OR....the coolant passages have partially clogged up.. When you replaced the thermostat , you should have reversed flushed the entire coolant system, check the radiator hoses for wear (they wear out from the inside), flushed the radiator completely..... Do the complete flush and check the hoses.. refill and see how much better it does..

Coolent not circulating though engine and makes a clicking noise in engine compartment


From what you have indicate in your question, for coolant not circulating, one would like to know if the temp gauge is reading hot or cold?
If upper rad hose is a different temp than lower rad hose? I'm suspecting with the little info, it's possible that the impeller on the water pump has failed, causing no or little movement of coolant

If coolant is not circulating there is either a blockage in the line somewhere or most likely you will have to replace the thermostat.

Coolant doesn't circulate in raditor. Also coolant blows back through raditor.


the coolant is probably not circulating because either the water pump impellers are worn or broken off of the shaft,the rad maybe plugged or possibly the thermostat has seized closed causing a restriction in the system.the coolant blows back because its not circulating and over heating and will escape were it can.

Saturn L200 keeps overheating , I have replace thermostat, radiator recovery tank cap, heat sensor, but it is still overheating. what do I need to do to fix the problem


Either the coolant is escaping, or not circulating. If there is coolant in a puddle under where the car is usually parked, then I would look above that point, track the leak back to its origin and fix the leak. If the exhaust smells of coolant, then you need a real shop repair for a gasket or worse.
If the coolant is not circulating then I would check for a bad water pump or a blocked radiator. Lots of the L Saturns had leaking heater cores, a slippery wet passenger floor and stink was the indicator.

My 1997 Buick Century is over heating. I have check the water the fans or fine and my coolant is fine as well. what could be the problem.


a common cause for this is a stuck-closed thermostat, which would disallow coolant from circulating from the engine to the radiator. take the cap off the radiator and see if you can visualize the coolant circulating. if the coolant is just sitting there stagnating then that's probably the issue

the solution to your problem is simple. yes you say that it has a new water pump, but the reason that a vehicle bubbles out of the expansion tank is because the water pump is not circulating coolant, the coolant boils in the engine and bubbles out of the expansion tank. secondly the reason the fan never kicks in is because the temp sensor is not seeing the heated coolant because the water pump is not circulating the coolant through the cooling system. 3rd. the heater never gets hot because the water pump is not circulating coolant through the heater core in order for it to get hot and provide heat. and the temperature gauge never seems to go up because yup you guessed it, the water pump isnt circulating coolant in order for the engine temperature sensor to see hot coolant and thus send a signal to the engine temperature gauge as to the coolant temperature. i know you said it has a new water pump, but i have heard that this type of vehicle may come with a plastic fin pump. i would remove the pump and check the passages for foreign matter{ trash} in the passages as well as the condition of the new pump. also one last thing, the reason the vehicle died on the road in the first place was probably because it overheated. happy hunting and please post to see what you found. i am a mechanic by proffession.

Check the 'heater control valve'. This valve opens when u turn on the heat switch on the dash, so the hot coolant will flow thru the heater core and provide heat. So although the coolant is circulating in the engine, the valve controlling the flow to the heater core is stuck closed, or not working.
