Hi Marcy,

I have a 2003 Grand Am GT with 185K on it currently. I have had the intake manifold gasket replaced, the cylinder heads done last year and now my SES light comes on now and then, had it scanned and the P1404 fault code comes up..they tell me it related to the EGR valve. Luckily, I work at a car dealership, but my car hesistates to get speed going on the highway, the RPM's will be up to like 3 and I'll be doing 35mph. I thought it was the transmission starting to go, but hopefully not. Anyway, I feel your pain, they did guess work last year and was replacing parts I didn't need only to find it was the cylinder heads leaking. I didn't have the usual symptoms of white smoke, etc. Anyways, I would recommend calling Pontiac and tell the dealer to cut the **** and fix the damn car. That's what I did and they were hot on the case involving the general manager of the store. They ended up giving me a huge goodwill because I told Pontiac that they were just putting parts in my car, charging me and not fixing the issue. I got a free rental and everything. I was going to report them to the Attorney General. I hope you find the issue with your vehicle, I just paid my off literally last week after a 5 year loan and I want to have this car for a couple of more years seeing as I just put so much $$$ into it.

Let me know how you make out.

All the best.

Darrell

Hi, I have a Mitsubishi Diamante ES2004 love my car. My engine light came on so I took it in for Diagnosis test. The trouble code p0401, which means exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected....

It doesn't work quit that simply

You have all the items listed, that you need to be
familar with & know how to test

Only then-- if one of those items fails a test-- do you replace it

So you need a repair shop

Way to complicated-- even for some professional
mechanics just starting out--- or not up to speed

Grand carvan gives p402 code

This is not a cut and dry fault code. This means that more than one thing wrong can set the code in the computers memory. Here is the low down on the P0402 fault code. This is from the OBD2 fault code diagnostic book.

P0402 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected
Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine hesitation
Possible causes - EGR solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- EGR solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection
- EGR volume control valve stuck closed
- Dead (Weak) battery
- Faulty EGR temperature sensor and circuit
- Faulty EGR Valve
- EGR passage clogged
- Exhaust gas leaks

2004 mercury grand marque check engine light on code is p0108 says map sensor or vacum leak but does not have leaks.this car does not have map sensor what else needs to be replaced

PO 108 --- Baro/Map Sensor High Voltage Detected

Yes it does

It is integrated into one unit in the ESM EGR assembly
(possibly)

I have no experience with that,so if you find only an egr valve
& no other sensor with vacuum hoses & wires going to it,replace
the egr valve.

Getting the feeling you missed it

Work the web sites. Put in your motor & EMS Module for egr
& see what comes up

The code for my pontiac grand am says that I need an egr solenoid. I cannot find one on the net. My Grand Am is a SE and there are no parts?!? I am at a loss!

The valve is easy to find but as far as a solenoid thats a dealer part, also a 2004 grand am doesnt use a egr solenoid, the egr is electric and doest use one, good day.

Just replaced EGR valve- had code P0404. It's

First question, did you clean the port or passage out or the cyl head where the valve mounts to, when the valve was taken off of the engine? 2nd question, did you replace the Vacuum transducer ( little black round valve, with a vacuum hose fitting) and the valve assy? After these items have been replaced, it usually needs to have the PCM (powertrain control module) reset with a scanner of some type.

Code 404

Hi my name is Allen!

The code 404 doesn't mean anything unless you read the code book, but if its pertaining to the EGR Valve Position Sensor Low or High. This means the EGR Sensor is stuck and the EGR Valve will need to be replaced and the code cleared.
