Question about 2001 Lincoln LS

Does the Lincoln LS haved a vent on the differential housing? My bride drove through high water and this concerns me greatly. JG

Rear differential

The tube you mention is probably the "vent" for the differential. Since the differential is low on the vehicle, water and dirt are concerns. By moving the vent to a higher location, problems with dirt and water are reduced.

The pinion seal is a common place for the differential to leak. I would also check the differential housing vent to make sure it's not plugged.

Up under the rear floor pan,in front of the tire well,
above the rear differential & behind the fuel tank ,
in the middle between the two fuel vapor canisters

I changed battery on my 2000 Lincoln LS and the temperture lights are blinking

Disconnect your battery and make sure it has a full charge.
Low voltage can cause "crazy's"
Leave it unhooked for 30 minutes.This will let your ecm clear its brains out.
Reconnect your battery, and see if it straightens up.

On a seperate concern, make sure you have a battery that is specific fot an LS.
They require a battery with a vent hose connection to keep the hydrogen gas from the battery from collecting in the trunk, and causing an explosion.

Our Lincoln LS has a higher noise level when driving at speeds over 50. A whining sound from the back seat- is there something wrong with the differential. We just changed the oil in the differential but...

If it is a whining noise and not a metallic grinding (such as a bearing noise) and the noise seems to change with a light change in load; IE- louder with maintaining speed on slight incline versus quiter on deceleration, then you are likely to be hearing a worn ring and pinion gear set. Changing the fluid will not affect this type of noise and if the old fluid was free of metallic debris, then you have time on your side to prepare for replacement of the ring and pinion. A great deal of customers are opting for a used differential which is usually a bit less expensive than rebuilding the one you have.

i just did this today, its the engine coolant bottle, they **** and crack, i guarantee its the bottle, its not a hard job, got to take the wheel off to get to bottom clamp, and then bleed the system thats all, buy a bottle for 60 bucks

Dual Temperature controls inside - 2002 lincoln ls

The problem is most likely a bad dual climate control valve. This component is located on the right side near the radiator under the hood. It will have several coolant hoses hooked to it and 2 silver cylinders protruding from it. You can clamp off the heater hoses at the heater core and see if both sides cool then and this will tell you that the valve is letting coolant thru when it shouldn't be.

This will narrow it down to either the valve or the control head inside the car,or wiring in between them. The only way to narrow it down further is if you have a scan tool that could access the climate control data. Have seen several of these valves cause this concern and have only seen one control head cause it.
