1997 Mercury G P won't start. Ran out of gas. Left dry for six months my husband in hospital. Put in gas and turns over, but won't try to start. Acts like not getting gas. My husband passed away and I have...

How much gas did you add to the vehicle? Is it showing up on the gas gauge? It is possible that you did not add enough gas to the tank and the fuel pump is not sending enough gas to the engine. It is also possible that since the car was sitting for 6 months water or moisture could have accumulated inside the gas tank or gas lines and preventing the gas from getting to the engine. You can try adding a bottle of dry gas into the gas tank that will dry out any water or moisture in the gas tank and add some more gas. You can but a bottle of dry gas from any auto parts store fairly cheap. Also you can have someone open the hood of the vehicle and put a little bit of gas or starting fluid into the throttle body and then try starting the vehicle. If it starts for a few seconds but won't stay running you may have a bad fuel pump or clogged gas filter which would need to be checked out by a mechanic. Good luck.

I ran out of gas but after i put some in it wouldnt turn over so i pumped the gas in attempt to get it to start, but it would not completly turn over (all power works) then it stop trying to turn ove

that advice is true a jump start should give you enough power to start vehicle ,but the real problem might be in the fact that you ran out of fuel and have maybe tripped out a sensor , by all means try the jump start ,make sure the vehicle you use you keep that engine running with a little revving to give a boost to your vehicle, if it still wont start have the OBD codes read and cleared as the gas supply was cut may have a sensor code that will prevent starting

Occasionally, when I start the vehicle the engine will just continue to turn over but there's no gas getting to where it needs to be. Usually, if I keep pumping the accelerator, you'll hear t

Sounds like a fuel pump issue but could be many other things too. I would start by replacing the fuel filter, it's possible its not letting in as much fuel as needed. Spark plugs are another possibility, I'd change them out if they're more than a year old (as your car gets older it will blow more oil and the spark plugs get fouled much sooner). It could be compression too, you'll need to pressure test each cylinder and verify compression is within spec (if it's not, that's a BIG repair). Also try lower octane gas, it actually ignites faster than high octane gas.

Why wont my 1989 buick lesabre wont start ?

Does it crank? Or there's no crank no start? If it cranks safely get under the vehicle and bang on the fuel tank while someone holds the key in the crank position with the vehicle in park. If it starts it is most likely the fuel pump.

Ran out of gas wont start now

if its petrol engine bang bottom of fuel tank while some one else cranks vehicle over if it starts good just pump jammed if it dont buzz to life and you cant hear fuel pump buzzing ceck for power to it if thats there replace pump. running out of fuel kills electric fuel pumps internally in petrol tanks.

if its diesel you must bleed fuel system taking extreme care if you un do lines some very high pressure

try to put 2 gal of gas.
if you run out of gas, the system require little more than a gal of gas to get from the pump in the tank through the filter to the injector. Approximately 1gal just to pressured the fuel rail.

Chevy uplander ran out of gas and now it won't start

I had a similar issue with my uplander. They don't have a reset switch on the pump but if the vehicle is CLOSE to running out of gas and you happen to park on a grade where the front of the vehicle is pointing down then you may have trouble starting the vehicle until it level's out.

All I did was apply some gas pedal while starting and it started. Then I got to a gas station ASAP. If you're right out of gas you may want to add some to the tank and let the vehicle sit in the ignition on position without starting it for a minute or two to get some fuel back in the lines before starting it.
