This was very helpful, however now I would like to know if anyone can tell me the easiest way to get the output speed sensor out, as this is the part I have to change. It appears that it is in a very confined area and probably would have to remove alot to get at it. Can you help me?

I am not positive, but I think the speed sensor in the very back of the tranny, you should have two plugs back there, one is the speedo and the other goes to the computer, the sensor. They are usually accessible, I would check the look of the new one and match it up. I am not very familiar with your model, But most are close, Mine is at the back, but mine is also a normal rear wheel drive truck. Yours could be anywhere. check it out.

How to fix code po500 on a 2001 ford ranger

A code P0500 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
  • There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
  • The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle
check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly. If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor.
If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.

Would a code 720 cause the following problem?

No the speed sensor will not cause misfires at higher speeds and this sensor is located on transmission case up high and towards the tail shaft Not in the tail shaft that one is the vehicle speed sensor and it sets a po500 code.

I have 2000 ford ranger four wheel drive 3.0 and the speedometer is not work and codes po500 vehicle sensor where is it located

Your "Vehicle Speed Sensor" refers to two systems. In your situation it is your transmission mounted speed sensor. It is externally mounted and easy to replace. The other system is known as your "ABS sensors. They are located behind both front rotors and the rear one is on the drive-axle. But I don't think we need to get into that. If I can be anymore help, let me know, good luck.

Code e reading on 98 Honda accord Lx after car had died an got jumped

On your HONDA. the common problem is the Vehicle speed sensor .
I recomend get the car scanned with a diagnostic computer scanner.
Because the speed sensor malfuntion, will give a code and Afect the trans. with the performance.
The "D" light flashing is code refer to a transmission malfuntion.
But the code can be only for the speed sensor.
The AUTOZONE, ADVANCE and NAPA autoparts. they will scan your car without charge is just a Extra service that they give to the customers. If the scanner show the speed sensor code Just replace and the car will fine.

Variable Speed Sensor on 99 taurus

I think you mean the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS).It is located on the transmission, somewhere on the portion of the housing that contains the differential and axles. Most speed sensors are a 2 wire unit, and often the wires are tightly twisted to reduce electromagnetic interference(this will probably help in identifying it)

I failed inspection because of code 500. If I replace my sensors will that automatically cure the problem? It also failed for code 734 which I have no clue what that means...

PO500 First off if you have replaced your tires with an incorrect size then that is your problem. If not the PO500 possibly means the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) may be bad or the wiring is frayed or loose. I would reset the code and see if it comes back while at the same time inspecting all the wiring. PO734 Transmission 4th gear slipping. This may be why you have code PO500. You need to immediately seek out a transmission expert and have this looked into before the transmission is toast.

po500 is vehicle speed sensor,-this means that the speed sensor is bad or you have a wiring problem in the sensor curcuit. p1764 means that the sensor could be bad on transmission, it is manufacturer control transmission, fix the speed sensor and then maybe the light will go out for transmission sensor. best of luck carl,
