My AC went out and I was told it was the core that had a hole in it. The price to get it fixed is to much. Any suggestions?

What's your problem?I have a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban. The AC is blowing out hot air. I have had the truck for 6 years, every Summer its the same thing. The ac does not get cold, I take it to the m

To clarify - - if the truck has rear and heat, you have two heater cores and two evaporator cores. The evap cores carry the freon.
If the leak is in the evap core in the front, the price is probably right.

Where is the orifice tube located??

The Fixed Orifice Tube is located in the high pressure inlet to the AC evaporator core on the firewall, the high pressure side is the side with the small hose from the compressor. Below is a picture of the Evaporator core, note the two holes, the Fixed Orifice Tube goes in the smaller of the two holes.

The heater core in our 1989 ford ranger went out, my husband says he can fix it instead of buying one, can this be done?

As a rule the late model vehicles use such thin material in the core ,repair is not possible, for the price of a new one ,I would suggest he not waste his time on repair.

Can you fix a hole in a compressor without buying a new one? my heat doesnt work and neither does my a/c the air that comes out is is barly warm. I was told by a back yard mechanic that i had a hole in my...

The heat has nothing to do with the a/c compressor. If you are not getting any heat, it could be a number of things. The most common problem is the thermostat is stuck open. This will not allow the temp to come up to where it needs to be. The second most common problem is the heater core is plugged up. You can feel the two small hoses that run back to the firewall. See if both are hot and the same temp. If one is cooler than the other, that means that water is not circulating through the heater core. And you need a new heater core.

Blocked Weep Hole: Hello. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger xlt and water collects on the passenger side floor. I was told the weep hole for the a/c condensate is likely blocked. Can someone tell me where the weep...

The AC evaporator/core condensation drain tube is located on the passenger side of the fire-wall towards the bottom of the fire-wall, (it resembles a heater hose that is coming off from the fire-wall and it connects to nothing, and it is just to drain the AC condensation) and it is easily viewed from under the vehicle. Use long pipe cleaners folded in half to clean out the AC drain, and be very careful that the AC evaporator/core, or the heater core is not damaged from using any hard or sharp objects to clean out the AC drain.

How do I know if my heater core is bad?

The heater core shares the same housing as the air conditioning evaporator core. The drain for the AC is designed to leak condensation. The coolant could be draining out of the same drain hole. To test a heater core you must use a cooling system pressure tester. If the pressure drops during testing search for your leak looking at all your cooling system components including your radiator. If the heater core is leaking coolant should be coming out of the AC drain hole.
