I have a Dodge 3500 Ram with an Automatic 6 speed transmission. I pull a Gooseneck trailer with a GVW of 16k lbs. I have no issues when I am on the road, but when I leave the highway or I'm in heavy...

sounds like you may havea torque converter lockup issue, one way to check is while in slower traffic (15-35mph) gear down your transmission such that you are at a higher rpm (2000-2500) then take your foot all the way off the throttle, if it is in lockup your engine rpm will stay about the same, if not it will go to about idle.

If the tcc doesn't unlock while shifting it will shift very hard and if it slips it will make your temperature increase

1992 chevy 3500 wont shift unless under hard acceleration

there is a transmission sensor on the top of your motor by the intake. it senses the accelerator or motor rpm's and tells the ****** to shift. its about 30.00 and easy to change. get it at any auto parts store.

Need a new or rebuilt tranny for my 2005 maxima sl

Why do you need a new transmission? What was it doing. Becareful in working with a dealership. One of the most common problems is that of hard shifting or the engining reving inbetween gears then slamming into gear. This is a problem with the valve body that shifts the gears. If you get this fixed soon and are careful driving it to a good transmission shop, you will not need a full transmission. The valve body, fulid and gaskets must be replaced. This will run $1500-$1800 not $3500
This is a known defect withthe transmission that has not been recalled. Report this to NHTSA as a safety related issue.

Transmissionn not engaging. will not shift into any gear but if you rev the rpms to about 2000 to 2500 it will shift into gear, not a slam or hard shift but as soon as you lower the rpms it disengages...

Sounds like you should top up the transmission fluid.Warm the car up and the check it with the engine running and in park. The dipstick is on the drivers side below the battery and on the top of the transmission. If it checks good then you need to take it to a transmission shop to have it checked.
