Hi I have a 1997 previa that needs a new muffler. The mufflers online that say the are for a 1997 are really for a 1996. Will they still work with my car

thanks for the tip on Auto Zone. They seem to have something that will work that is a lot cheaper than the dealers $500 and it looks more like what I have on the car than other makes. I don't have a store nearby but I can order it.

I might buy the part and let my mechanic install it.

To be perfectly sure, buy a replacemnet from Auto Zone and match it up to the one on your vehicle...the parts store also has a book on the replacement listings for all cars exhaust parts.
That question can be better answered by them.

You are welcome and dont forget to wear protective eye wear when doing this job, secure the car on jack stands and chock the wheels....also if you have an air compressor with an air impact hammer and chisel set it will help to remove the old parts, check with the parts store on this and/or if you have a Harbor Freight Store order from them they are the cheapest for tools, they even have an online sitewww.haborfreight.com.

Hi I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The muffler fell off. and looks like wires are hanging. The Jeep won't start.

Question edited for clarity and add some full stops and commas and stuff. That was one of the longest run-on sentences!
Question moved to model category.

Yes, the wires are probably from the o2 sensors on the Catalytic Converter but really could be from anything. Reconnecting them should fix the starting issue.

How do i replace the muffler on a 1997 mazada

doesn't really matter. if it is bolted or welded as you can cut the old muffler out and get adaptor sleeves that go over the pipes and are clamped on with the muffler clamps.

Replace muffler on 1996 cutlass supreme

Not really.
You have to cut the old muffler off and reconnect the new one, either by pipe connectors or by welding it.

Getting nocking noise from rear of Toyota previa driver side

This can come from the suspension or the drive section but it is best to check if the fault is seen on the road or even while it is idling.if so the exhaust must be checked as a low idling can make the exhaust tap on the sides , specially the muffler or the exhaust pipes. If an inspection is done on the bottom side it will reveal the case.if not check the suspension and drive.

Muffler pipe rusted and broke clean in half, but actual muffler is new.

NEED TO TAKE VECHICLE TO MUFFLER SHOP LET THEM FIX RUST PIPE WITH A NEW PIPE.LET MUFFLER SHOP FIX BECAUSE THEY CAN WELD JOINT SEAL BOTH NEW EXHAUST PIPE AND NEW MUFFLER SO YOU WONT GET CARBON MONOXIDE POISON LET MUFFLER SHOP CHECK ALL THE EXHAUST SYSTEM BECAUSE THE WHOLE SYSTEM COULD BE RUSTED DROP DOWN WHILE DRIVING YOU PROBABLY NEED NEW EXHAUST PIPE HANGERS.

I was told my 96 intrepid has an exhaust system with two (2) mufflers by an auto shop. i was then told that what they said was a second muffler was in fact the catalytic converter. which is true?

Hello

If you were hot gas leaving the engine you would go through the manifold, into a small pipe, then in to the catalytic converter, down a longer pipe and finally in to a muffler. So, the Cat is closer to the engine and the muffler is closer to the bumper. You only have one muffler on that car I guess is the really simple answer.

I hope that helps you

I have a 96 Honda accord with 213,000 miles, it drives nicely, I think the muffler is really loud though. What causes that? Should I replace it?

The muffler usually rusts from the inside. Then, it won't 'muffle' the engine noise anymore. Replace the muffler if it's bad.
