Most likely, tensioner is worn out and needs to be replaced.

I believe one bolt through the center of it holds it to the motor. Be aware that this bolt may have left handed threads so it would have to be turned clockwise to loosen if this is the case.

Squealing noise in engine when first starting

this is usually a sign of a bad serpentine belt or belt tentioner. When you first start your engine the starter uses a lot of power from the battery. The squealing noise is the alternator trying to replace that power and the belt slipping on the alternator pully.

2000 durango not charging right, found that belt tentioner is at it's max travel when running. replaced belt twice, as with tentioner, checked dia. of all pully's with new one's from my parts supplier. I...

I had a similar problem that had me checking all the same things that you are, my charging gauge was reading low witch is why I thought it was slipping belt, but it turned out that dodge alternators don't always just stop working they can die slow, mine would say it was only charging halfway, then I would shut it off and start it back up and it would be charging fine for an hour and then drop down again, drove me nuts for a week then I changed the alternator and have not had a problem since.

Where is belt tensioner and how do you turn it to loosen belt to change

The belt tentioner pully is the idler pully in the serpentine belt system...
You need a long wrnch (11/16??) to fit the pullys center bolt...
Turn the bolt to the right ( righty tighty) and the tentioner will losten its tention on the belt enough to remove the belt...
Imediately replace the belt ... so its routing is not forgotten by time or distraction...
If there is still a sticker on the upper radiator support reflecting the serpintine belt routing.. then you are in a better spot to be doing this ... with distractions...

Need to replace just the belt for the ac on a 2000 doge caravan

there should by a small pully (called a tentioner) under the alternator pully, get a wrench that fits the nut in the middle and turn it counter clockwise this will loosen the belt to get it around the other pully. Ps. this is easier with two people, one to release tention and one to put the belt on.
