I have a 2001 Ford F-350 V-10 cruise control stopped working

I have a 2001 Ford F-350 V-10 and the cruise control has stopped working. The light does not come one either. I checked all fuses including the recall fuses the only fuse that was bad is for the Data Link Connector and the cigar lighter I replaced it and it did not help.

Thank you for any help.

Speed Control The speed control system consists of the following components:

  • anti-lock brake control module
  • brake pedal position (BPP) switch
  • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch or jumper
  • deactivator switch
  • speed control actuator switches
  • speed control servo
  • speed control actuator cable
  • speed control indicator
  • brush assembly (Motorhome vehicles only)
  • control and spring brush assembly (Motorhome vehicles only)
  • Principles of Operation
The speed control system is designed to maintain vehicle speed above 40 km/h (25 mph). After the ON switch is depressed, depressing the SET/ACCEL or COAST switch will activate the speed control servo. To increase a set speed, either depress and hold for continuous acceleration, or momentarily tap the SET/ACCEL switch for 1.6 km/h (1 mph) acceleration increments. To decrease a set speed, depress and hold the COAST switch until the target speed is reached, or momentarily tap the COAST switch for 1.6 km/h (1 mph) deceleration increments. When the speed control system has been disabled by tapping the brake pedal, the RESUME switch can be depressed and the vehicle will return to the original set speed if the vehicle is traveling over 40 km/h (25 mph) and the OFF switch has not been depressed.
NOTE: The deactivator switch is provided as an additional safety feature. Normally, when the brake pedal is depressed, an electrical signal from the brake lamp circuit to the speed control servo will deactivate the system. Under increased brake pedal effort, the deactivator switch will open and remove power to the speed control servo, releasing the throttle independently of the speed control servo.
NOTE: The air bag sliding contact provides the electrical interface between the steering column wiring and the speed control actuator switches in the steering wheel.
The inputs to the speed control servo are:
    • vehicle speed signal
    • speed control actuator switches
    • brake pedal position (BPP) switch
    • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (if equipped)
    • deactivator switch
The outputs of the speed control servo are:
    • speed control indicator (Excursion and Super Duty)
    • speed control cable controlling the throttle position
    Inspection and Verification
NOTE: If any concerns are noted with the speedometer or horn, address those concerns by referring to their associated sections before continuing speed control diagnosis.
NOTE: When in speed control mode, initial depression of the clutch pedal may cause a normal momentary increase of engine rpm.
NOTE: If the vehicle is a diesel, refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual.
    1. Verify the customer concern by operating the speed control system.
    1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

    Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
    • Speed control cable
    • Speed control cable not attached to throttle
    • Central junction box (CJB) Fuse:
      • 6 (15A) (Excursion)
      • 8 (10A) (Motorhome)
      • 13 (20A) (Excursion, Super Duty)
      • 15 (5A) (Super Duty, Excursion)
      • 28 (10A) (Super Duty, Motorhome)
    • Speed control actuator switches
    • Brake pedal position (BPP) switch
    • Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (if equipped)
    • Deactivator switch
    • Speed control servo
    • Wiring
    • Loose, corroded, or dirty connections
    • Bulb (Excursion and Super Duty)

    1. If the fault is not visually evident, go to the Self-Test Diagnostics - Excursion or Super Duty (Excursion, Super Duty), or verify the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart (Motorhome).
    2. Self-Test Diagnostics - Excursion, Super Duty
WARNING: This test is a key on engine off (KOEO) test only that is conducted in park only with emergency brake fully engaged.
      1. Enter Self-Test Diagnostics by depressing the speed control OFF switch while turning the ignition key ON, making sure the engine does not start and is not running. The speed control indicator on the instrument panel will flash once to indicate that speed control module entered the diagnostic mode. FIVE ADDITIONAL FLASHES AT THIS POINT INDICATE A DEFECTIVE SPEED CONTROL SERVO. Release the OFF switch.
      1. Press the remaining switches in this sequence: ON, RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL.
IF THE "ON" SWITCH IS NOT DEPRESSED WITHIN FIVE SECONDS AFTER ENTERING THE DIAGNOSTICS MODE, THE MODULE TIMES OUT AND THE PROCEDURE MUST BE STARTED OVER.
The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is depressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch.
      1. A lamp flash with the last button (SET/ACCEL) indicates that the STATIC test passed. If the lamp does not flash with the last button and there are no additional flashes of the lamp, the switch is defective.
If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes:
      • 2 Flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).
      • 3 Flashes - Deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.
      • 4 Flashes - Vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective.
      1. Immediately after the STATIC test, the speed control servo does a DYNAMIC test by automatically actuating the throttle lever from 8 mm (0.315 in) to 12 mm (0.472 in) of travel from the idle position. During the DYNAMIC throttle pull, observe throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of the speed control cable and correct connection of speed control cable to throttle lever. Make sure the THROTTLE RETURNS BACK TO IDLE POSITION.
      1. Return ignition switch to the OFF position and proceed to the Symptom Chart.

SOURCE: cruise control won't work

Does the on light in the dash come on? If not, you may have a broken switch in the steering wheel which is a fairly cheap repair. Otherwise, the controls work through the Printed Circuit Board in your dash (your instrument cluster) and the problem could be as simple as a solder defect or faulty component. The problem is that no Ford Service Technician that I know will touch this and tell you that you need to replace it.

The instrument cluster is very easy to replace but may cost you a few more dollars than you want to spend. I would have someone with an electrical background check the cruise control switches in your steering wheel with a multimeter before going any further with this. Also check the wiring for resistance leading from the switch to the cluster.

SOURCE: cigarette lighter not working, already changed fuse

Look in your manual for the Power Distribution Box reference in Roadside Emergencies. It should be located under the hood on the driver's side. My 2002 Explorer has two power points on the center console and the 20A fuses in the Power Distribution Box for them are number 7 and number 9. They cost $3.99 each at AutoZone. The cigar lighter fuse under the dash is unrelated.

SOURCE: Toyota Caldina 2001 no power to cigar lighter, radio, clock!

Hi there
If it was the front dash mounted lighter socket you used, the correct fuse is the 15A CIG & RADIO fuse (at the end of the second row) of the dash fusebox. If replacing the fuse hasn't fixed it, you may need to look closer at the wiring from the fusebox as it's likely the wiring has gone open circuit.
Take the fuse out and check for voltage at the terminals in the fusebox with the ingition key turned to the ACC position. One terminal or the other will have 12V on it. If no voltage on either you have a fusebox to ignition key wiring problem. Check for voltage on the ACC pin of the ignition switch, with the key turned to the ACC position. That's pin 3, a blue wire, of the 8 pin ignition switch connector. If still no volatge the switch is likely faulty. the voltage into the switch must be there as it also feeds the ECU and IGN systems, so the car wouldn't run at all if it wasn't.

There is another possibility. If you have an alarm system, immobilizer or turbo timer (assuming the GTT model) these devices could be interrupting the power lines and be the culprit devices.

I assume it wasn't the rear hatch area lighter socket you used, because the fuse for that doesn't power the radio or clock. The fuse for that socket is the 15A ACCESSORY fuse in the passenger side footwell fuse panel.

SOURCE: 2003 expedition cruise control inoperative no

I'm having the same issue with mine. Just checked both fuses #5 and #12 under the dash, but both are fine. Can't find Relay #302 for the speed servo. 2003's aren't listed in the recall. Ugh!

Where would I find the fuse for the cruise control in a 2001 ford escape

Not certain if this will help. The 1st supplied diagram lists the fuse in the box within the passenger cabin. As you can see, none are listed for a cruise control module. The 2nd supplied from automotorpad.com in the Ford Cruise Control Module #4 diagram, has an arrow pointed to a Fuse Holder but I see no identifier on the page for the year of the vehicle. Then there is an unsettling article from ItStillRuns. https://fuse-box.info/ford/ford-escape-2001-2004-fuses-and-relay

Cruise doesn't work. Checked fuse and its good. Does this truck have a self diagnosis or do I need to rely on Chevrolet to fix?

Before you go to the dealer check your stop lights including your cyclopes. Cruise controls use brake lights for resistance to activate cruise.

Crusie control does not work on 2011 gmc sierra 1500 and I've already replaced the switch?

If the switch is replaced, then it can be wiring issue or faulty cruise control board. But as the switch is replaced, get the voltage at the switch tested to confirm the switch is actually receiving voltage. If no voltage received at switch power supply wire then ,apply external 12 volt power to the cruise control switch wire and then see if cruise control comes ON.If yes, then you know wiring is issue.

2001 Ford F150 Extended Cab Cruise Control does not work. Replaced Relay fuse #5 in fuse box. Reset computer by disconnecting the battery still does not work. ANy suggestions as to what to do?

Have you check your truck for the Cruise control recall that ford haves for this year of a truck. I own a 2001 Ford Expedition and they re-place a wiring harness on the top right of my Engine, close to the firewall. It have a fuse in line with it. The re-call stated that the cruise control can star a fire in the Engine if the wire's get to hot. So maybe your wire's already meted and are stopping the power from traveling to the unit.
