Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

If the engine has over heated it may have blown the head gasket, you say the engine noise changed and you have power loss, get a mechanic to check it and try not to drive it

My guess would be a fuse has blown, which has cut-off current to you windows and starter, and you didn't notice the latter until you shut off the car of course. Give the fusebox a quick check before making any assumptions.

The window motors are controlled by central module known commonly as the BCM, to pin point the cause of this malfunction have that module scanned for faults (dealer). This is the only easy way to track down the cause of all the windows not functioning.

my golf 4 1.8 automatic transmission gearbox change gear 1 & 2 but 3,4,5 are not changing..wht can b problem..plis help um so disperate!!!!

try to use door key switch if its equiped with the mod to roll down from outside drivers key hole ,some have a switch that if held in unlock pos will roll down window some you turn key in other direction . you have to hold for a sec to operate..I had to do this while installing an alarm to re-energize the window controls..hope this helps

check the loose connection in the driver's door at the window motor/module

if you make the contacts on the plug that connects to the thermo switch, does the fan work (both speeds?)?

if not, then it could be the fan control module or a fuse on there.
