The engine light is on. they replaced a air sensor on the engine at bank 1 line 1, that is what it showed when they read it. before the converter, they cleared it and the light went off. the light came back on after the engine warmed up. they checked it again and it is showing the same thing after they put a new sensor in. what could be the problem?

U do not have to replace upstream also. My o2 sensor Catalyst 2 bank 2 went bad. Had engine code for burning rich bank 2. Replaced tha down stream sensor an fixed problem runs better an better gas. This was in 97 gmc suburban. Idk what vehicle ur askin about. An I'm not to familiar with much about cars jus trucks an suvs.

My 05 Altima 3.5L popped up ABS, O2sensor, P1800 &P1273 frm the Auto Scan what do these mean & how to fix them?

P1800 is the VIAS system. Most likely the intake runner control vacuum actuator is defective. Where did you get the ABS info?
P1273 NISSAN - Air Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 Bank 1 Lean Shift Monitoring.
Possible causes - Faulty Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1
-Intake manifold or vacuum hose leaking (check this first)
- Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Fuel pressure
- Faulty Fuel injector
- Faulty Air Flow Meter
If all seems ok then replace the cylinder bank number one O2 sensor and the bank two sensor, replacing only one sensor can lead to another check engine light. These are the sensors before the catalytic converter.

2002 gmc envoy 4.2 liter 6 cyl code reads bank 1 too lean

too lean can be from leaking manifold, vacuum leak, injectors on that bank, low fuel pressure

Bank1 sendor 1 02 sensor-where is it?

bank 1 means before convertor on manifold usually ! has to be cold when doing it and very careful not to break it when removing or installing. its done with a socket but some have special plugs so be carefull don't drop sensor. some have 2 or 3. o2 sensors. before replacing look for loose vaccum lines and if you don't find any then replace it. some times you can get a false reading and the fix will be something different.

Where should I find this sensor P0342?

EXHAUST RELATED ERROR CODES

There are 711 possible PO generic DTC error codes. Only 7 of the 711 codes are exhaust related.

PO401: Insufficient EGR Flow

PO402: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Excessive Flow Detected

PO410: Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction

PO420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

PO421: Warm-Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

PO430: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

PO431: Warm-Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

THINGS TO ASK YOURSELF OR YOUR CUSTOMER

Have there been any driveability or performance issues with the vehicle, have there been any recent repairs or tune-up work performed, if so was the check engine light reset and were the codes recorded on previous repair orders.

Do not rely on scan tool data alone. In most applications, the customer will have the check engine light reset prior to repair. If the original cause of converter failure is intermittent, only the catalyst failure code may show up (masking the original reason for converter failure).

P0133 error code what 02 sensor is it

This involves the front oxygen sensor on bank 1 sensor 1. This code indicates the engine air fuel ratio is not being adjusted by the oxygen sensor signal or the ECM as expected to do so, or not adjusted as often as expected to do so once the engine is warmed or under normal engine use. --------- There are two 02 sensors. That are before and after catalytic converter. Bank 1 sensor 1 (upstream/precatalytic converter) and bank 1 sensor 2 (downstream/post catalytic converter).
------------
But if possible replace both. The bank 1 as well as bank 2. Replacing both at a time is always advisable.--------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Chech Engine light on so I plugged in my OBD tool and it read FUEL TRIM TOO RICH AT IDLE(bank 1).What sensor or part needs to be replaced? The vehicle is a 99 VW Passat 4cyl 1.8 turbo.

i would say the up stream o2 sensor.if you had a decent scanner you could watch the readings and know for sure.this is just and educated guess as i do not know those readings.

O2 sensor location 1997 pontiac grand am 2.4 4 cyl auto trans

BANK 1 SENSOR 1 IS THE ONE IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. BANK 2 SENSOR 2 IS BELOW THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

P0171 SHOULD GO AWAY WITH A GOOD O2 SENSOR BUT DO CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS TO BE SURE. 3.1/3.4L ENGINES HAVE A BAD DESIGN INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, THE LEAK OIL, COOLANT, AND AIR.

Code P0420

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

There is one 02 sensor in front of the catalytic converter (called upstream), and one behind it (downstream). When the engine is warmed up and running normally the upstream oxygen sensor reading fluctuates and the downstream one is fairly steady. In the case where both readings are fairly steady, a P0420 check engine light code is set.

Possible Causes:
Oxygen (O2) sensor not working correctly
Damaged or leaking exhuast (pipe, manifold, catalytic converter)
Damaged catalytic converter
