The new cars have a electronic wheel sensor that feeds the odometer. you may need to reset the sensor to the odometer connection. I would google it or read how on a Spark forum page. There are several. they have tons of info.
I just saw the year so this is the wrong answer for a 2013. Sorry!
FOR an older car ---> then: The first thing I would check is where the cable connects to the ODOMETER.. If that comes unscrewed the odometer will stop. There is a screw in connection where the cable fits into the transmission. If that comes unscrewed it will stop working. BUT YOU WORKING NEAR THE ODOMITER SO CHECK THE BACK OF THE ODOMETER AND SEE IF YOU PULLED OR PUMPED SOMETHING LOOSE. I also think it's possible that a wire on the wrong place could cause the odometer to stop. If the cable connections are ok and wires are connected correctly then the turning cable is broken or the gauge itself. I'M HOPING THIS HELPS. ALSO HOPING YOUR NEW IGNITION SWITCH WORKS TOO! {I wish I knew if all readings on the odometer stopped. But I don' t.}.
that is normal for spedo to stop at 299999. I dont know why toyota did this but i read on there site that they made the spedo not go over that amount. maybe they did the same thing to check engine light. I dont know on that though.
If the odometer stopped but it shows speed it is not the cable. There is a small plastic gear in the speedometer which will strip if you reset the trip odometer while the car is moving. Any speedo shop can repair it
Toyota is a very good vehicle. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. I have known some to have 500,000 miles on them. One fella even put 1000000 on his, drove it to toyota and they gave him a new one because they were so impressed
How many miles are on this vehicle? I ask because the odometers in these car stop working around the 140k to 170k mark. Did the button comeback? Is this the mileage on the digital or analog trip meter? The process to change the odometer gear is fairly straight forward and takes less than $20 and an hour. Let me know.
1992 Camaro. If you want I can give you the name of a company who will go through your instrument cluster and repair it, otherwise there may used parts out there as well, it just depends on how much you want to spend.
Please let me know.
IF YOUR SPEEDO IS WORKING THEN YOUR VSS IS OKAY, BAD VSS WILL STOP SPEEDO AND USALLY CAUSE HARD SHIFTING. NORMALLY ODO IS CONTROLLED BY SERVO MOTOR WHICH MAY HAVE WENT OUT. CHECK EBAY FOR REPAIR SERVICES OR SIMPLY GET A SALVAGE CLUSTER AND HAVE MILEAGE RESET
