Pull the rear axles, remove axle seal. There is a special bearing removal tool that attaches to a slide hammer. Insert tool thru center of bearing and use slide hammer to pull out. Use old bearing against new bearing and tap in with hammer
check to see that the sensor wires that sense axle rotation are connected. Some are near the caliphers abd read the rotor rotation and in my car with rear drum brakes it is in the axle housing next to the axle bearing. Check that the sensor is compatable for the new application
You want to know how to remove the axle correct ? There are clips inside the rear carrier that hole the axles from running out . You need to remove the the bolts on the back of the rear carrier but make sure that you can get the fill plug out first so you can put oil back in it . The clips come out like nothing you can do it with your fingers you need to replace the seals and look at the axle shaft and condution of the bearings replace as required also check to see if the vent is clear on the carrier the oil is heavy and expands alot this will blow the axle seals . The older it is the more likely it is that you need axle s or bearings but you will need new seals if you remove the axles
If replacing only the seal, remove the seal using a suitable seal removal tool.
If replacing the seal and bearing on the 8.6 inch axle, install the slide hammer and adapter behind the bearing and pull out the bearing and seal together.
If replacing the rear axle shaft seal and the bearing on the 9.75 inch axle, install the J 29712 or equivalent bearing puller into the axle housing behind the axle bearing.
Remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing by tightening the nut on the J 29712 bearing puller.
Use a slide hammer, bearing puller and adapter to remove the old axle bearing
To Install:
Install the axle shaft bearing using a suitable size driver. Drive the bearing into the housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.
Lubricate the seal lip and install the seal with a suitable seal driver. Make sure the seal is fully seated in the axle tube.
This is a very simple job to do. Raise the front of truck off the ground, block the rear tires. Using pliers and a hammer, remove the grease cap from hub. Remove the cotter key and nut from axle, pull out slowly and remove outer bearing. then remove hub from axle. To remove inner bearing ,prop hub on a board and use a large punch to drive out bearing and seal. Clean out inside the hub and install new bearing and seal. Replace all parts in the reverse as you took them off. Hope this will help you.
you need a might new hub internal bearing wiped out the seal goes and grease escapes and then bearing goes check for oil around both left and right hubs or check axle oil level and oil around housing
it does require some special equipment. most likely have the 9.25 axle in the truck which has adjusters on both sides of the differential that are threaded in the housing. these require a special tool to adjust and set proper backlash. also helpful to have a press with bearing pullers/installers. need a dail indicator to set backlash also
First check level of oil in rear end housing, if low, pull drums & see if any axle seals are leaking. If you want info on doing axle bearings, get back to us.
if i assume this is a 9 and 1/2 chrysler rearend...take the rear differential cover off..remove the screw tht holds the pin that passes through the spider gears then remove the pin. push the axle shafts inward til the c clips can be removed then slide the shafts out. you will need a bearing puller to remove the bearing and seal
