Cabin switch will not open trunk - 1998 Lexus ES 300

so if you're inside the trunk, theres a glow in the dark emergency handle. hopefully you are not in the trunk. inside the cabin, there should be a button on the lower half of the drivers door. some models may have a button in the glove box.

Step 1:

The year of your Malibu should not matter.

Step 2:

Locate the electrical fuse panel inside the passenger compartment. It should be located behind a plastic panel (kick panel) to the left of the drivers feet or to the right of the front passengers feet.

Step 3:

If you have your cars factory Owners Manual, it can assist you in locating the fuse panel. Once you have located the fuse panel and have removed the plastic cover, read the sticker that is attached to the back of the fuse panel cover. It should show you which fuse is associated with the trunk lock or trunk latch.

Step 4:

If this fuse is found, remove the fuse and determine if the trunk latch has stopped clicking. If you can not find the responsible fuse, you can do the following-

You can pull one fuse at a time until you find the one for the trunk latch (remember, a fuse often is responsible for more than one circuit), or

Step 6:

You can locate the back side of the in-cabin trunk switch, disconnect the connector that attaches to the switch and see if that stops the involuntary activation of the switch. If it does stop, you can safely conclude that the switch that you push to open the trunk will need to be replaced.

Step 7:

There is a switch that is activated/deactivated by the opening/closing of the trunk deck, it works the same way the door jam switch works when you open/close one of the cabin doors. The switch in the trunk compartment is bad and you will need to replace it.

there is a problem with the trunk latch if your rear seats fold down use light to see if latch is jammed if seats dont fold you will have to remove rear seats you might want to see how much a shop wants this can be a tricky job

Hello, since the trunk is open you will be able to get into the cabin of the car...there is a lever that lets the rear seats down so you can enter the car. But thats only as long as the trunk is still open?

I simply opened the bonnet. Connected the battery charge positive to the + feed on the back of the alternator, connected the negative to the body. Turned it on, immediately the interior light comes on. Turn on the ignition press the cabin boot switch and it opens the boot. Charge battery as normal. Easy Peezy

There is a small yellow rocker switch inside the glove box that locks a potential thief out of the trunk if he breaks into the cabin. Hit that switch in the other direction and it's fixed.
