Code PO141 indicates that the heater circuit in the Oxygen Sensor mounted in Bank 1 (Driver's Side) is not working properly. The ECM has determined that the sensor is taking too long to heat up to around 600 degrees and then switch out of close loop mode. If the ECM determines that it is taking too long then a code PO141 will be set. Normally it is the sensor itself that is defective. Replacing the sensor normally will fix the problem. However it can be the wiring harness or a a bad connection. Check the wiring carefully and look for a short in the wiring. If you find none then replace the O2 Sensor. If this does not repair the problem do not replace any other parts. Time to take it to a professional with professional tools and diagnostic skills to find the problem. The O2 sensor is more than likely the problem but there is no guarantee that will fix it.

Codes PO141,PO403 on Olds Intrigue 1998

PO141--Oxygen Sensor Heater Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

I would change all the O2 Sensors, when a monitor or downstream
fails,which they seldom do

PO403--EGR Circuit Malfunction

Codes Related---NO

Converter- if it is 14 years old, it is done working very well,
but not related to the heater in the oxygen sensor

I would do all the O2's,the converters & EGR Valve & go from there

I never give out that info, but look how old the car is,it won't pass
inspection, with just one of those three issues

1997 grand prix code po141

A code P0141 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: open or short to ground in the wiring harness O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance O2 heater element resistance is high Internal short or open in the heater element Note: Typically a failed catalytic converter does not cause this code. You're more likely to see a P0420 code for a failed converter

The latch that opens the Trunk (Hatchback - as it is a minivan) is broken. I cannot open the back...

If you still have the broken piece, you can try to use that to try to open the back. Otherwise, you have to open it from the inside.
I changes mine in 2007 so if memory serves me, I had to remove the back panel and pull on the cable to open the door.

Now to see and pull on the cable, and replace the latch, you have to take off the inside liner/panel to get to the latch to replace it. This took about 2 careful hours to replace.

The trick is to get the two side pieces off.
These two plastic pieces are next to the window on the left and right sides. Each piece is about 3 inches wide and 18 inches long. Using a strong grip, or a pry bar or large screwdriver, take off both pieces. There are three clip areas that holds each piece in.

If you are using a tool, be careful to protect the area by wrapping a towel on the screwdriver/tool.

After that the bottom liner piece pulls away and you can see the latch.
There are two screws/bolts that holds the latch.

The two pieces snaps back in pretty easily.

You probably broke the plastic piece shaped like a J.
You can try to glue the pieces back, but note that the piece broke due to age. I changed the whole assembly - good for another 7 yrs. I could not find just the plastic piece.

Trouble codes

Hi Sandra!
The trouble codes listed are defined as:

P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0331 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

PO300 & PO331 are possibly symptomatic of issues caused by PO141, which would have a direct influence on the air/fuel mxture... which could cause missing and knocking.

So the first thing I would try is replacing the Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor, after making sure the wiring and connections to that sensor are in good shape.

Does the engine show any physical issues such as loosing coolant, smoking exhaust, overheating? A blown or leaking head gasket on the #2 bank could also present these (among other)
codes.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
