If the sputter got real bad, I could smell what smelled like weed eater gas inside the cabin. As you could also imagine, there is a loss of power.

It sounds like you need a good tune-up, such as spark plugs and/or wires. They will act up when cold and when warmed by engine temperature will let the engine run smoothly again. And possibly a distributor cap/rotor.

If you have not replaced plugs start there A bad map sensor will also cause black smoke and poor running

it sounds to me like your ignition coil pack is going bad. or if it is a distributor type engine, it will be your distributor cap and rotor button. but first take the number 8 spark plug wire off and check for spots where the wire has touched the exhaust manifold.

it sounds like issues with fuel did you change the fule filter ? did you go to an auto parts store to scan the OB2 (ECU)

sounds like lost compression maybe, does it run rough when it's on? does it stay on when you give it gas? does it just die or does it sorta choke clunk clunk sputter and die? some more information on the nature of the problem would be very much appreciated.

sounds like the same problem i was just having try changing out your fuel regulator its pretty pricey try to find the cheapest around $75.
