If the engine does have good compression and fuel pressure, and it does have spark out to the spark plugs (spark plugs are not carbon fouled), and the engine will crank over but it will not start, then the engine most likely does not have an injector pulse and the fuel injectors are not letting fuel into the engine.

The most common reasons for that to happen are a loose or dis-connected computer ground wire, a blown ECM fuse, a faulty distributor, because that is where the signal is generated that the ECM (Engine Control Module) uses to time the fuel injector pulses, the ECM itself is faulty, or there is a wiring problem between the ignition module inside of the distributor and the ECM, or a wiring problem between the fuel injector assembly and the ECM. Also, a problem with the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor could prevent the fuel injectors from letting enough fuel into the engine. If you can spray carburetor or brake cleaner (highly flammable only will work) into the intake manifold through a dis-connected vacuum line, and then start the engine, then the problem is definitely a fuel delivery problem.

I do believe that the answer to your problem will be found in the information that I have given you, or at least it will point you in the right direction. I hope that this information will help you to figure out exactly what the problem is, and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

SOURCE: 1993 chevy truck with 350 engine will turn over

Check the crank and cam sensor. If the magnetic pickup in any of these sensors are bad it will not send a signal to the computer for the correct spark in timing sequence. If they are very old and never been replaced I would replace these also for they do get weak from age and the heat from the engine. Magnets do lose their power from heat generating through them you know

SOURCE: 1999 dodge ram 3500 cummings turbo diesel will not start.

Diesel engines fire on compression alone (usually 400psi).The Truck may have air trapped in the fuel system. When you perform any fuel system repair on a diesel it is going to take alot of cranking to get the air out. You can take the breather loose and shoot a VERY small amount of starter fluid in the intake and it should start. Do not use starting fluid much as it can damage the engine. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 2000 Jimmy running one second and just won't start

Need to check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60 to 65psi to have the fuel injectors to work. The shredder valve is at the back of the throttle body on the drivers side at the fuel line, and you can get the fuel pressure gauge as a loner at Auto Zone where you can also get the step by step instructions to replacing the fuel pump. Note. Do not try to start the engine with gas down the throttle body, it's been know to catch fire in the manifold causing the injector valves to melt which = big $$$$ to replace. Good luck and hope this helps, and check all the fuse also. You never know, it could be as simple as the ECM fuse going bad. Keep me posted be glad to help you get your jimmy running 100% again

SOURCE: fuel pump fuse out?

I also own a GMC Sierra and have personally replaced the fuel pump three times so far. A fuel pump can go without notice and I would say that yours at 160,000 miles is very likely the problem. It couldn't hurt though to spend about $15.00 to put in a new Fuel Pump Relay first...you could get lucky and have it solve your problem. Hope I helped.

Firing problems 2000 honda civic

From easiest to hardest on fixing would be to use fuel cleaner, if that doesn't work then you need to change the fuel filter, if that doesn't work then you need to check your injectors, if it still isn't fixed then you need to pull and clean (and possibly replace) your spark plugs.

Van idles fine but when going the the road giving it gas it acts as if it isn't getting the proper gas ... it back fires....repleaced fuel filter and pump, crank and cam sensior

sounds like the timing is off. check the firing order to be sure your plug wires are on the correct positions on the coil packs. if that checks out, possibly a timing chain may need replaced. i hope this helps

Have a 2000 GMC Yukon Denali. Won't fire.

Make sure that the belt isn't extremely tight and they the belt tensioner isn't liked up by pulling in the belt. It should move and spring right back. Make sure engine isn't locked up. And please explain what happen with the vehicle. The fact that you replace plugs and wires and fuel filter for a car that's not turning is throwing me off. So right now we are going all over the place. But definite look at belt and tensioner I've seen a few times that a bad tensioner will make the belt wrap around tighter inhibiting the engine from turning.

Car wants to start but acts like it isn't getting fuel.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check the fuel pressure to see if it is getting gas. You can check it from the fuel line. You can try hitting the gas tank a few times and then try starting it. If it is the fuel pump, this may cause it to activate and work. You can check to see if there is fuel coming to the fuel filter or going through the filter. Make sure the filter isn't clogged up. You can always use starter fluid or a little gas in the intake. If it starts for a second or two, you probably have a fuel issue. If it only cranks, you may have an issue with the ignition system, such as a cam sensor, bad plugs or wires, distributor, crank sensor. If your computer has picked up on anything, your check engine light will be on. You can get specific codes from your computer that explain what part is not working. You have to have an OBDII scanner though. You need fuel, air, and fire to start a vehicle. Try hitting the gas tank first to see if it will start. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, then the pump is probably working. If not, the pump is probably not working. You need to test for fuel and spark. Hit the tank and let me knoe if it starts.

It quite after backfiring has fire but it's like it isn't getting gas.

if you spray intake cleaner into the intake with the air snorkel off and it starts then i would say you have a fuel pump problem.the backfiring was probably caused by the motor all of a sudden going lean.you will have to check the fuel pressure with a gage it should be about 35lbs pressure to run the car.if the pump needs replacing change the fuel filter.

Not getting fuel to the carby, have checked float bowl(empty) have taken fuel line off and turned engine over but no fuel comes through. Fuel tank is full

On your Swift, there's probably a fuel filter located just off the gas tank that's somewhat hard to spot. It also takes a bit of finesse to get a wrench in position to change the filter, and so this part is often not changed out until it's completely plugged. I would suggest changing this filter to see if this makes any difference. However, even a plugged filter normally allows a bit of gasoline to dribble through.

A second possibility is that your fuel pump isn't working properly. I don't have my reference materials in front of me, but I believe that this car is equipped with an electric pump, as opposed to a mechanical pump on the engine. If your fuel pump isn't working, you won't get fuel delivery through the lines to your engine. Also, the fuel pump may have failed from having to work extra-hard to compensate for a partially or wholly blocked fuel filter (see above).

I would trouble-shoot both these items; I suspect that one or both of them are contributing to your fuel problem. I have seen a number of Swifts / Metros sold "as-is" or sent to the junk yard for running poorly when their only problem is a clogged fuel filter.

My 2004 Ford Explorer wont start, I changed the battery and to no avail

If the motor doesn't turn over at all then it's probably a starter/solenoid problem. If it turns over but won't fire up, get some starting fluid from auto parts store and spray some into intake. If it fires there's a fuel delivery problem. So change fuel filter and try again. If that doesn't work, then change fuel pump.
