Generally, GM products from this era have an external canister type fuel filter near the gas tank underneath the car by the rear axle.
The following illustrates the proper procedure for changing:
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
CAUTION
Never smoke when working around gasoline! Avoid all sources of sparks or ignition. Gasoline vapors are EXTREMELY volatile!
WARNING
Fuel supply lines on all vehicles equipped with fuel injected engines will remain pressurized for long periods after engine shutdown. The pressure must be relieved before servicing these fuel systems.
