Question about 2001 BMW 330

1 Answer

My 2001 330ci has the Harmon Kardon sound system. However, when I run the system at high volume for about 5 minutes, the front speakers start cutting in and out. It doesn't seem like a speaker is blown, because both front speakers do this at heavy points in the music I'm listening to. Almost seems like the amp is being driven too hard, but there is no distortion. And when the speakers are all working, it sounds really good, so I don't think speakers being blown is the problem. Oh, and I turned off the speed sensetive volume control.

Thermal issue is shutting down amps till temps moderate. You must be driving your system too hard. And check out your tone control settings especially the bass. Every 3 db boost forces amp to double power at that frequency so if you are already blasting at 100 watts, a 3 db boost will compel amp to put out 200 watts, etc. Very easy to overdrive and overheat amp. You might want to try blowing air over output stages to improve cooling at high volume levels.

You are lucky that you have good protection circuits - otherwise by now you would have blown the output stages.

SOURCE: Radio/Speaker Problem

Check your radio and trunck to see if you have a equalizer/amplifier built in or otherwise.Adjustments would cause radio to go into safety mode.Try your balance from side to side.A busted speaker would cause the fuzzy sound or a shorting speaker wire.If none of this is your problem you may need to take it to a sound specialist.

SOURCE: Problem starting, Loss of Power

The flashing or "blinking" service engine light is indicating an over fueling condition that may damage the catalytic converter. There is a good possibility you have a defective or stuck injector, possibly ignition issue.
Take you car to Auto Zone and ask to have the codes read, they will do this for you at no charge, write the codes down and reply back.
Let me know.

sounds like the speaker wires have come loose, try to check at the speakers for voltage or sound, if none inspect the back of the radio.

My car will start and then after a minute or two of running, the car will idle down and cut off but I can start it right up again and still get the same results. Whenever I put it into gear to drive it...

Sounds like a possible clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. The system provides and initial extra pressure to pressurize the system then pump pressure drops to normal. If pressure is low or filter clogged decreasing available volume the symptoms you describe are the result.
