Yeah , P1234 or B1234 An it want or won't start . You need factory service repair info.to know what this is . For all codes there is a diagnostic trouble shooting procedure . Without this info your best bet ,have it towed to a qualified repair shop. 4WD - 2WD . If P - powertrain code factory info doesn't show this code . What cheap code reader are you using . It's not telling you the correct code . Cheap code readers will do this. Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.
You can unhook the battery , wait 1/2 hour then hook it up again. Or get a code reader, see what the code is, then erase it with code reader, Auto parts store have cheap code readers, some will actually read it for you, then erase it if you like.
More important- you cant get an inspection sticker if u erase it. It will still show on computer. Find out what code it is giving and try to fix it
The service engine light should only come on when the PCM detects a fault in one or more of the systems it controls. It should also store codes.
If a simple code reader was hooked up to read the codes perhaps the code reader is only good for the generic codes and your PCM has model specific codes stored in it. Some code readers cannot read those codes. A shop scanner may be needed to get codes.
If the tech 2 device is indicating the code for 4wd module then it has to be replaced.Get the module and its connections checked before going to replace the module. If the module connections are getting short or loose then getting the connections repaired solves the problem. But most probably when it shows module problem, the module has to be replaced. The actual testing procedure is as follows:---
If you have an ODBII code reader, you can check if there are any codes stored in the ECU. There is also a diagnostics mode you can go into for transfer case issues:
1. Warm up the engine. Turn it off. 2. Turn the ignition switch on and off at least twice, then turn the ignition switch to off. 3. Shift into park. 4. Turn the 4WD selector to Auto. 5. Turn the ignition switch to on. Do not start engine. 6. Is the 4WD warning lamp on? Continue if no. 7. Shift into reverse. 8. Turn the 4WD selector to 2WD, Auto, 2WD. 9. Shift into drive. 10. Turn the 4WD selector to 4H, Auto, 4H. 11. Shift into neutral. 12. Turn the 4WD selector to Auto. 13. Shift into park. 14. The 4WD indicator light will come on for 2.5 seconds, then go out. It will then flash a series of times to represent a one or two digit code, with half-second delays within a number and 1 second delay between numbers. e.g. to represent the code 23, it will flash twice with 0.5 seconds between flashes, wait a second, then flash three times with 0.5 seconds between them.Get it rechecked again by disconnecting the 4wd module and reconnecting again,.

The best way to diagnose this is to have someone hook up to the transfer case controller and see what service codes it has stored in it.. I see a fair number of Encoder Motor sensors go bad on these but there are quite a few other things that can also go bad which will casue the Service 4WD light on. Once you know what the service codes are then the diagnosis should be fairly easy.
The 4wd switch has been known to be a problem. p2575 is the code for it. Also there is a ground problem. The wires are on the frame near the drivers side front door. Remove the wires, clean the undercoating off, use dielectric grease on the terminals and reinstall them. After that spray on some undercoating to cover the area.
I Had this same problem a while ago. the 4WD setup in the cars computer is set to send out this service light after so long. what i did to solve the problem was, I Pulled the fuse to the 4WD system. than i ran the car for 5 to 10 min's and than replaced the fuse. it reset the computer and turned off the light. another thing you could do is rent a automotive computer diagnostic code reader and remove all error codes which would also turn off the light
