It may not be the belt, could be the tensioner not applying enough pressure, or A/C bearing going out. check other things that are turning with the belt

Hello gang,I'm having a problem identifying a rattling noise coming from my water pump area,it only happens after the engine is warm and I accelerate, and it doesn't stop until I stop pressing gas.

if water pump is external
take the drive belt off spin the water pump by hand
see if it rocks

if a serp belt pop off the serp belt
check all the tensioner pulleys and alternator the same way

if water pump is internal timing belt and water pump replaced at the same time

I was driving my 2000 dodge durango v-8 318 it had a squeaking noise in the area around the serp. belt. that blt was only 3 months old. as i was driving i lost power steering and the car started to...

it could have been a fluke bad belt but the pulleys should be checked for alignment and looseness.bearings go bad and can sometimes cause a wobbly pulley that can throw a belt.the belt tensioner may need replacing as these can create problems if the belt is not held tight enough.

There is a whining noise coming from the front until the car warms up and then it dissipates. It is getting worse though

There are several things it can be and they need to be diagnosed when it is whining.
  1. Power Steering pump. If you put a long screwdriver to the pump and put your ear you should hear it a lot louder. (becareful you don't drop the screw driver into the belt area) If you have a stethoscope it will work too.
  2. one of the serp. belt pulleys.
  3. The transmission filter may be coming apart and restricting the flow of fluid.
  4. Could be the water pump, but less likely.
  5. Timing belt. You did not indicate which engine. The 4 cylinder belt should be replace around 90K.
Diagnosis is essential, you don't want to just throw money at it.
In one and two a service may take care of the problem. With the trans make sure they remove the pan and replace the filter, then flush the trans.

Serp. belt off alignment

Did you replace the belt? You mentioned the pulleys, but not the belt. If the belt is new, check the grooves on the pulley that appears to be a problem and make sure there is no residue stuck in the grooves. Also, make sure you can't wiggle the pulley that is giving the problem. It is possible for a belt to cause some damage when it comes apart.

Serpintiene belt tensioner replacment

personally it is a really tight area to work in and if you are not experienced with mechanics i would get a pro to do it as if you misalign the pulley or break any bolts on it you are really screwed try jew the mechanic down as it is only about a 1 hour job if you know what you are doing
