Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

2 Answers

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy 4X4 4.3L V6 . Runs great for about 15 minuets?. Then it chokes when you push on accelerator. I replaced the ignition module but still have same problem? I am at a total loss of what to look at next? I was thinking of changing the MAP --Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor?.. Your Thoughts ? Thank you

I would check the fuel pressure, also the throttle position sensor. Is the check engine light on?

I have replaced countless distributprs for this issue. also fuel pressure has to be abovr 50 psi or will not start needs 50 pdi to open poppit valves on injectors. also if the spiders ruptured will be to much fuel and won't start hook up fuel gauge turn key on till reaches max psi turn the key off shouldn't loose more tham 15-20 psi if it does suspect spiders leaking.

Stumbles and backfires on acceleration

Check the distributor shaft. They have a history of developing finite cracks that causes the condition your describing. Let me know if I can help you with any other info.

check to see if you have your plug wires at the right location on distributor cap. If you don't have a digram they are as follows- right side 1, 3, 5 front to rear. Left side is 2,4,6 front to rear. #1 should be on the location at front of cap closest to intake manifold. firing order is 1,2,3,4,5,6. Hope this helps. KS
